..and sometimes slightly chunkier purrees! The HV told me to just get on with it and keep trying her with different things but we've tried all sorts and she gags and throws up everything she's eaten so far that day.

Has anyone got any experience or advice on this please?

hi no advice im afraid but would be interested too in this as my ds has done the same with pasta and kiwi (not eaten together, mind!) i think its just part of them working out when they put too much in mouth? Anyway im sure someone with more useful advice will come along soon x

same here too - am feeding DS (7 mo) finger foods before purrees as otherwise he throws the whole lot up. was hoping he would work it out in time....

We have same problem. DS2 is 9months and been trying finger foods for a while. He seems to struggle if he gets something to the back of his throat and can't move it forward again or swallow - but he doesn't just gag, he vomits up whatever is in his tummy. It's not nice but I don't want to get him stressed about eating. He had mild reflux for few months and still chucks easily (if he has a bad cough for example) so I thought it would improve with time but it's taking a while. Interested to hear if anyone has ideas ...

I would just leave off the finger foods for a while. 6 months is very young. Mash everything up nice and smooth and try finger foods again in a week or two.

Yes, my nearly 9 month old still does this. We're doing BLW so everything hes given is a finger food.

He wouldnt take anything off a spoon so BLW was my only option, I just try to break everything up if possible (hes getting the hang of the pincer grip now which your dd prob doesnt have just yet) and if he gags I offer him water to wash it down.

Just to say same here - BLW so its all finger food and most of it, when it goes in DDs mouth, makes her gag and throw up.

Hoping its a phase as she learns not to fear swallowing, but has been about 4 weeks! (She is now just over 7 months)

Same here too - I have realised that she mainly has the gagging and vomiting problem when she is given free rein with fruit (usually at end of meal so nearly full up). I think sometimes it's harder to swallow esp. if the bite is too big. So now I cut the fruit up really small and get her to eat it herself with pincer grip, rather than give her chunks to hold and bite from. Also give fruit at start of meal, so if she does gag she hasn't got a full stomach. I was worried also that she was starting to form a habit of gagging followed by vomiting, so if she does gag I try to distract her with sips of water/singing to stop the cycle. These things seem to have helped. It's still scary when it happens though!

Maybe try to identify the food causing the most gagging for your lo and change how it's given.
