Meat recipes (purees) for 6 mo

Hi all,
My ds has been ejpying his veg purees and fruit purees. I would like to introduce some chicken, red meat, fish in the next few weeks when he reaches 6 mo.
Has anyone got any ideas? I'am currently using my beaba baby cook and frezzing portions in freezer.

Was thinking of frying chicken and onion in very little butter with mushroom then simmering with water with a bay leave then putting in my baby cook blending and freezing in portions and mix and match with veg.

Has anyone got any ideas i can use and has anyone just used there baby cook to steam meat? Was thinking after a month of doing that making actual portions of meals in the baby cook freezer tray and doing that on a sunday a week before starting to get a good batch going.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

x

fish in home made cheese sauce with mash is a bug hit here! Make a load of cheese sauce and freeze it in portions to stick on top of anything you want them to eat Smile

pork cooked slowly in stock and apples. this is still one of DS's favourites.

slow cooked beef casserole

we have most difficulty with chicken, and the texture is dreadful pureed.

Thanks for that, good idea. Guna sound a bit thick but have you got recipe for cheese sauce?
Does the pork puree well? With the slow cooked beef what stock/sauce do i add as i know they cant have too much salt etc. I have a slow cooker so will come in handy.

Do those recipes freeze ok? x

waffle, I found chicken steamed quite nicely in the babycook. I used to cook one fillet with a potato, carrot and some peas, then blend with a little butter and some of the cooking liquid . ds3 and ds4 used to love it.

Boots do baby stock cubes with very little salt in them. A bit pricey but one cube goes a long way when they're so small! Or you could add tinned tomatoes to the beef (mind you I'm a non-meat eating mum cooking for a meat-eating baby so it's all a bit of an experiment in our house...)

Thanks chipmonkey, did u cut the chicken up very small and put the veggies in at same time with the mark 3 amount of water?
Would that be suitable for freezing? Was thinking of trying mince in the baby cook

I used to do apple puree with a bit of chicken stirred in - sounds gross - but my DCs loved it!

Poach chicken breast gently in water or weak stock. When cooked, dice it and then whizz it in a blender with milk/water/stock and add to apple puree.

I made chicken casserole using drumsticks (the dark meat has more iron plus the bone adds flavour. I followed a recipe just to get quantity ideas, but it involved, a small onion, leek, carrot, sweet potato. I added my own touches of bay. I used water not stock. Cooked at about 190c for more like 2 hours (cooking other things at same time) makes it real tender. Picked out the skin & bones and gristle vcarefully after. I puréed the chicken but only mashed the veg to get texture, left some bigger lumps of soft carrot & potato. It's been a hit!

Bit of a faff, but I enjoy cooking. I've since done plaice with cheese & veg. Next stop liver! (ew!)

waffle, I cut the chicken into 1.5cm cubes and put the water at level 3. I did freeze it

Mince was nice too and I used to stir a bit of chopped onion through it which the boys loved.

Thanks for all ur ideas everyone. What i could do is boil some rice/lentils and add to the veg puree rather than meat all the time and add grated cheese and melt it in.

waffle

cheese sauce is just a spoon of fat and a couple of spoons of flour mixed to paste, gradually add milk keep simmering, melt in cheese at the end.

I would puree first tries with everything to get baby used to the taste, and then just mush it up, then have the lumps. But i know many mums just go straight for the lumps.

hmmm stock I use oxo cubes cos i refuse to cook alternatively for DS but you can get baby stock cubes...probably not the best to answer.

Slow cooker will come in very very handy :-)

if you are out for the day take vegetarian stuff and it doesn't need reheating. I used to make a tomato/carrot/onion/celery/herb sauce and add red lentils. DS LOVED it!

Boots baby stock cubes were a bit flavourless, I found
Kallo do a lovely low-salt stock cube.

chicken and broccoli in a cheese sauce went down well here. Stir fry some chicken pieces and onion, and steam some broccoli. Make a cheese sauce as described above, then puree the lot. My ds loved it, both on its own and as a sauce for pasta.
