12-mo DD wants to eat whole apples

... is this a terrible choking risk? She gets ecstatically happy when she manages to grab an apple, and sits beaming and gnawing her way through it. Am worried though, and can't take my eyes off her (she's DC4, but I don't remember the others being like this).

Do you think I shouldn't let her?

DD's eaten whole fruit like that since about the same age. She was BLW'd though so I was used to her feeding herself by that point.

As long as she's supervised and not wandering around it with it, I don't think there's a problem.

Its fine - I think a whole apple is the least choking risk as they just gnaw on them and big bits don't break off

yes whole apple is less of a choking risk, with small slices they are more likely to bite off a bit they can choke on, with a whole apple its harder to take a proper bite iyswim

mine started at 5 months it is the least chocking risk as they can take only what they can bite.

Thanks all, feel more reassured now! Was just worried as I know I sometimes bite off big chunks of apple that can hit the back of my throat, but maybe she can't really do that with only 6 front teeth??

Our LO does this - she will grabs an apple we are eating from our hands. I cut off chunky sticks from my apple or allow her to bite on one I'm eating. She's just 7 months and although she has no teeth, she is able to bite off bits and chew down to a size she can swallow. She will spit out any bits that are too large. Obviously we never leave her unattended whilst eating, but so far she hasn't choked on any food. I was initially worried about apples but she would always cry so much when I wouldn't allow her to bite an apple I was eating, that I gave in and I'm glad I did as she seems to love them!
