Re-heating frozen purees

I have made and frozen several fruit and veg purees for my 6mo. I have been defrosting them by just leaving them on the counter at room temperature and then warming them to the required temperature by standing the containers in a bowl of hot water.

Is this safe or should i have reheated the defrosted puree in a pan/microwave and then let them cool to the required temperature before feeding to my baby? They do not contain any meat or dairy - just plain fruit and veg. I thought my method was fine but I have just been looking at the guidelines on Annabel Karmel's site and am now getting worried....

I did what you're doing for both of my DCs. Neither of them ever suffered any bad effects from it.

I think either way is fine tbh. Whatever is easiest for you.

Your method is fine. You can even just let it defrost aat room temp and feed it to your baby like that, without heating it up.

Phew, thanks all

It is safer to heat to piping hot and allow to cool because this will kill any bacteria which may have built up. The questions are:

After you made it, how long did it stay warm / at room temp before you froze it? the quicker it is cooled down and frozen, the less chance bacteria have to multiply.

After you defrosted, how long does it stand around before you use it? Again, the quicker you use it, the less chance for bacteria.

I think what you are doing is probably fine so long as you froze it quickly after it was made.
