Weaning when baby can sit unaided

I've read on Kellymom and in various other places that solid food should start when baby can sit unsupported. Dc3 is 8.5m and only sat unsupported last week. Has anyone ever left solids to 8m or know anyone who has? I'm just curious as dc3 has been so slow to get onto solids and really doesn't eat much still.

We waited until DS was sitting unaided at around 29 weeks before starting BLW...but tbh after a couple of weeks of eating a few things at supper he just stopped wanting solids so we left it a month or so before offering things again. It wasn't until he was over a year old that he started eating little bits at Breakfast lunch and dinner. As long as he was still breastfeeding on demand and happy I stopped worrying and let him lead Smile

DD was ready for solids at nearly 7 months. I think with most babies sitting reliably even with a bit of support is what you should be looking for. Good head control, comfortable etc. Some babies don't sit unsupported for a long time. DD wasn't too fussed by solids at first but milk should remain their main source of nutrition for 12 months anyway. By 9/10 months she was eating very well indeed.

He is fairly fussy but eats very well. Good range of veg and meats. Loves his fruit and dairy as well. ...and like his Mum is a total chocolate fiend despite not having it until he was 2 years old LOL.

Some days like today when he's going through a growth spurt he eats more than DH LOL. (He's 6 now btw)
