What foods should u try first and whats the best time of the day to introduce? ds currently bf's like this (roughly):

6am- bf (in bed)
8am -bf (in bed just b4 we get up)
10am - quick bf (i think mainly to get him to sleep for his nap)
1pm-bf
4pm- bf
6pm - bf
8pm bf
10pm bf

ocassionally 12am bf but rarely.

I always thought u introduced food at the morning but ds doesnt really feed much in the morning tbh.

offer something when you are eating - it doesnt need to be a set time

CheeseEnforcementAgency · 20/03/2011 16:52

They don't have to be together or to replace bf yet

oh right, so perhaps a piece of my toast on a morn and a bit of my broccolli at tea time for example? This is my first attempt at blw can you tell?

yep. they won't actually eat anything or digest it until several months down the line. at present it will just be learning to hold food, get it into mouth and experiment with taste and texture.

banana is good, soft enough for gums, good taste.

i just gave anything i was eating.

CheeseEnforcementAgency · 20/03/2011 20:02

Usually recommended to try fruit & veg at first and then move onto almost anything.

should i be aiming to be on regular meals by say 9 months? when i weened my other little boy he would be on 3 meals a day by 7 months.

Any foods to avoid?

sweet potato over steamed.

you might have a dc like mine who ate the food pretty much instantly unlike the book predicted!

JoinTheDots · 21/03/2011 11:46

food to avoid:

too much salt, too much sugar, nuts and whole grapes (choking hazard), honey (has bacteria in it harmful to under 1s).

I chuck sticks of veg in a lowish oven for half an hour to soften them. Easier to hold than steaming them which makes it slippery.

try this article wot i actually wrote

it's not bad for a general overview of getting started, imho. Wink

ethelina · 21/03/2011 12:54

Ooo. They both work now, how bizarre! The first time it came up as "this link is not working. The site may be down or the address has moved"
