BLW & heat of food

I will be starting BLW next month when my DD is 6 months old.

As one of the concepts of BLW is baby eating while you do how is this possible as the food will be hot.

Especially things such as meat and potatoes from a roast dinner.

I just cut into everything and blow on it a bit, testing the temperature with my lip before giving it to DS. Things are usually an ok temperature before too long. I generally have something (bit of breadstick, rice cake, or veg) which he can get his hands into RIGHT NOW OH GOD WOMAN WILL YOU FEED ME? when things get hectic in the highchair. :)

same as blackcurrants.
i also tended to dish up things like roast potatoes a few minutes before we were ready to dish up, to give them a chance to cool.

i also cut food up and put on a plate that's not been warmed (tend to warm mine/dh up more since having dc's) and put next to open window for a couple of minutes.
if i'm worried a meal might be too hot, i also put food on high tray in order of coolest first - brocolli gets cold quickly, as does pasta etc.
sounds very complicated, but it's just second nature really.
mind you, i did dish some pasta up the other day, ds2 picked it up, then dropped it again. i picked it up and it was on the warm side. i thought at the time, another benefit of blw!
enjoy it, it's all fab.

meat from a roast, especially chicken, gets cool very quickly.

As the others have said really.

Always serve DD's food up first, and spread it out on a cold plate. Cut up things like potatoes so they cool quicker.

Stuff like curry, you can always stir through a bit of natural yoghurt to cool it down quicker.

and rinse veg, like brocolli, peas etc under cold water too, before draining

Bumperlicioso · 20/03/2011 14:12

Put a plate in the freezer to dish your lo's food onto. Cools straight away

Bumperlicioso · 20/03/2011 14:13

Frozen peas added straight to food also works a treat

Cold plate, dish theirs up first, possibly put theirs in fridge while you lay everyone else's out. Another option is to give them a cold crudite type starter while the hot food cools a bit.
