What high chairs would you recommend?

What do you want it for? One with a tray, one that folds small, one that can be used into childhood, one that pulls right up to the table?

CMOTdibbler · 18/03/2011 09:48

Ikea Antilop ( vvv cheap, easy to clean) or the Tripp Trapp (expensive, looks nice, lasts a long time - ds is nearly 5 and still using his)

ChippingInMistressSteamMop · 18/03/2011 09:59

Trip Trap - they don't seem like high chairs so the kids use them for ages, it makes sure they're always a good height for the table.

They are also good as 'spare' dining chairs too as average size adults fit them too.

They can also go into their bedrooms as a desk chair when they're no longer needed in the dining room.

Very mutlifunctional :)

ChippingInMistressSteamMop · 18/03/2011 09:59

even multifunctional Grin

RitaMorgan · 18/03/2011 10:05

There are lots of cheaper versions of the Tripp Trapp around too - Red Kite Feed Me Comfy is quite similar for about £100 less.

CheeseEnforcementAgency · 18/03/2011 10:09

Antilop is brilliant. V cheap, good for little babies & I saw a toddler in one the other day which didn't have a tray on.

PorkChopSter · 18/03/2011 10:12

East Coast also do a tripp trappesque chair.... yeah yeah the wooden ones look good & last until 11 but they also have crevices and varnish and bits and you when you have spent months scraping food off of it and poking in the holes to get soggy food out, you will find yourself dreaming over an Ikea antelop that goes in the dishwasher.

jandmmum · 18/03/2011 13:38

Another vote for the antilop here. DD has sat in hers since she was 4 months with the inflate insert. We also take the insert out with us which helps her sit in any other high chair as she can only sit for a short while unaided. The legs come off easily so its easy to stick in the back of the car to take to GPs etc. It is also very easy to clean and cheap. What more could you want?

EldonAve · 18/03/2011 13:42

tripp trapp or antilop

blackcurrants · 18/03/2011 14:25

do love the antilop. Would have liked the trip trapp but couldn't afford anything like that. We live in a little flat and the antilop doesn't take up too much space, plus DS is at the right height and looks comfy, plus the detatchable tray is v.gd for smeared in gunk (hello, peanut butter).

cardamomginger · 18/03/2011 16:36

we like chicco jazzy. easy to clean (so far!). secure, removable tray, looks nice. and, the big decider for us , it folds up.

cardamomginger · 18/03/2011 16:40

someone warned me off tripp trapp due to the dangers of tipping:

too expensive for us and didn't fold, so we didn't consider getting one. be interested to know what trip trapp users have found re tipping?

RitaMorgan · 18/03/2011 17:35

I guess you could tip almost any highchair that is pulled up to the table the same way? Or does having two legs rather than that L shape stop them tipping?

FlipFantasia · 18/03/2011 21:44

We have a tripp trapp and love it - v easy to clean (never had a problem with dried in food), takes up less floor space than an antilop (important to us in our tiny flat), has no tray (one of our main factors), and will grow with our son. We've not had a problem with tipping (DS is 12 months) and nor have my friends and family who have used them (going back about 9 years). Anecdotal I know, but I reckon the tipping could happen with many high chairs (one of the reasons to not leave them unattended in the high chair!).

Another thing to consider could be the Phil & Ted's Me Too travel high chair. It clips onto the table, so same benefits of having your child right at the table as with the tripp trapp and other tray-free seats. V cheap, but sturdy. V easy to clean. We bought one when we went abroad to visit family for a month over Christmas and loved it. I'm currently pregnant with DC 2 and we'll use this alongside the tripp trapp (as DS will be 20 months when this DC arrives).

MooM00 · 19/03/2011 10:40

We have 2 red kite feed me comfys (cheap imitation of tripptrapp) and neither dc has ever managed to tip them . They're great. Dc3 has just got an antilop and is happy in that.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/03/2011 10:54

Antilop. Antilop. Antilop. And they Don't tip. And they go in the dishwasher. And they cost GBP14 ...

theborrower · 19/03/2011 14:33

Another vote for the IKEA Anitlop here! So cheap, so easy to clean, pretty compact and can be disassembled if you need to.

blackcurrants · 19/03/2011 15:18

oh yes - the disassembled part is cool. We've just been away to an Older Aunt's for a few days, and we took the highchair apart in 5 steps, shoved it in the boot, and then had a highchair while we were there. This was v.gd because of aforementioned gunk-smearing. I didn't want DS rubbing peanut butter into their lovingly maintained pine tables :)

TripTrip is not able to be tipped if you get the bits called extended gliders.

It's a nice piece of furniture and isn't like having a plastic highchair in addition to the dining room chairs - choose the right colour and it blends in. It's a good, sturdy seat that will last you many years. It is no bother to keep clean, just wipe it with a damp cloth after each meal as you would with any highchair - esp if BLW!! Grin

The antilop is cheap & cheerful, great for babies and good for chucking in the car.

It depends if you want something that fits in with the furniture, is sturdy and will last or something that dismantles and goes in the car... it's all personal choice for individual circumstances isn't it :)

MissMarjoribanks · 19/03/2011 22:54

Antilop. Why pay more? Seriously. It's probably the cheapest bit of baby equipment we bought and also the most useful.

Been in the boot of the car with the pram? Quick squirt with the antibac at destination and you're good to go. It goes in the dishwasher. All of it, except the legs.
