19 week old DD, when to wean?

Along with previous message, just wondering when I should wean?
I wanted to wait until 6months, then start home-made purees,
Baby-rice with BM, then finger foods...

Certain family members keep questioning and I keep getting,
Well I started my lot on solids at 3months blah blah.

Well, DD is doing just fine on my milk! She was just over 15lb at 17 weeks
And she's always gained - not lost any.

Its annoyed me, how I'm left questioning my parenting.

Shouldn't let it get to me I know.

Mummy knows best!! :)

waiting to 6 months won't do any harm, early weaning might...

I started my DD about 24 weeks but had had all the "when are you going to start" rubbish for weeks and weeks beforehand, I spoke to my HV and she said when you think she's ready start and dont be railroaded by others, so I waited and so glad I did, she is much more aware of things and weaning has been a lot easier than I thought it would be. Don't be pressured, there is no need to wean early, 6mths is the guide for a reason I suppose!

Oh yeah I am definitely waiting until 6 months I guess, it's just so annoying when you get the "when are you going to wean"? like every time you see people.

did you traditional wean or BLW?

Traditional.

My DD is very small for her age and hasn't really taken too well to BLW but we are still perserving with that as well and she holds a few things just unsure what to do with them after that! Saying that traditional weaning gone very well.

Signs a baby is ready for weaning include losing the tongue-thrust reflex, being able to sit well, and being able to pick up food and get it into their mouths. I wouldn't get too hung up on the exact number of weeks as all babies are different, but look for those signs.

Based on that I felt my ds was ready at 22 weeks. I gave him a piece of broccoli and he picked it up and ate it - I took that to mean he was ready Grin

just had an email from MIL haranguing me to wean my 19wk ds because he is waking a lot at night. It never sinks in with her that he isn't hungry he is disturbed because of his allergies. He is bang on his centile for weight gain. Just ignore and do it when your DD is ready (you'll know). I have perfected the frozen smile and hmm noises.

With DD I did a mix of purees and finger food, she was small so I wanted to be sure she ate something but I also wanted her to be able to have some control with feeding herself.

go for it when you're ready, it's a great way because she was always happy to try something finger food off my plate which meant she ate a really wide variety of foods and still does (most of the time when she isn't being a toddler)
