Right, can anyone please tell me a bit about purees please - I've BLWed before but I think I need to get this thing going a bit faster this time

DD is 24 weeks and she's had the odd bit of fruit or veg thrown her way over the last few weeks and enjoys gnawing on it with gusto. DS was BLWed and it was fab.

But DD has reflux and despite ranitidine she has been really bad the last couple of weeks and her sleep's disturbed now to the extent that she looks exhausted. I'm going to phone the GP today to review her dose but I know he'll push me to give more solids, and much as my instinct generally lies with the philosophy on BLW I suspect weaning her a bit faster than BLW allows will be in her best interests.

I'm absolutely not a routine/lovingly prepared golden-guineafowl-and-courgette-surprise puree/Annabel Karamel type. But I'd love some suggestions for what I can give her that fits in with a family's meals and can be introduced fairly quickly.

Well I kind of go with giving mine what we are having and I zuzz(?) it up and give it on a spoon as appropriate. So she gets a lot of finger food but I also spoon feed her too but don't put lots of effort into purees. I also cook up anything I'm not going to use before it goes off veg wise and freeze in pots. Then if I'm feeling uninspired she just gets plain pureed veggies. She's liked for example shepherds pie, chicken pie, veggies with gravy mushed ( well the shepherds pie wasn't mushed but was spoon fed). I also give her cooked up apple or summer fruits as her brother likes this too. She also likes sandwiches, tortilla and fusilli pasta with whatever sauce as finger food. If I'm uninspired I'll mash up a banana or avocado. Does that help? I am a wing it no routine kind of person too!

Roast a load of different veg, eg butternut squash, parsnip, potato, sweet potato, swede, mush them all up separately and freeze in small pots. Boil or steam other veg eg courgette, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, carrots, peas and also purée and freeze individually. Then just defrost and mix up a different veggie combo at each meal. My ds yums up his dinners.

If you BLW DS1 then were you giving him family foods (but not pureed)? If you were then just mush what you are having (or the appropriate bits minus salt etc)

Fair dos. I've tried spooning her some mush but she just gobs it out so I thought maybe I should puree it. I just haven't a clue about this stuff - BLW is so easy.

Well I tried pureeing carrot and adding milk to make it really runny and smooth at the start but she still spat it out. Seemed to take a week or so for her to learn to swallow and then another week for her to decide to open her mouth for spoon. I wasn't force feeding her before this by the way - I was basically only doing finger foods and offering food on a spoon and giving her the odd mouthful when she opened her mouth. This was starting at 26 weeks as well. I don't think you can push it - I think they need to get comfortable with swallowing!
She's a little guts now at nearly 7 months.
