can you relax about the salt/sugar content a bit more at 1yr?

I am really careful to use baby stock cubes in cooking, not adding salt until after baby's portion is taken out etc, but I was wondering whether there is more room for flexibility once DD turns 1?

I am not saying I will give her loads - obviously - it's just that I worry when we are eating out and I don't know how much salt is added, or if I want to use a jar of say pasta sauce (if I am in a hurry), or if she nabs something off my plate that might be a little say, unhealthy Blush ....I wondered if this is OK...

I didn't worry about stuff like that given that the bulk of the food DS had was homemade so I could control the salt most of the time.

most of the stuff is home-made, but I still prefer normal stock cubes etc! And sometimes it's just easier to use a jar of sauce - esp when I am back to work in 2 weeks Shock but I know they can be a bit heavy on the salt.

I just wondered whether the daily recommended intake changes at 1yr, or, if not when?

Yes it does - changes to 2g instead of 1g. Until age 3 IIRC.

she'll be fine. really. unless you're giving her kfc at every meal, relax.

Yeah I think we used normal stock cubes from a year - the good quality stock like marigold or kallo certainly doesn't have much by way of added salt. And jarred tomato sauces, pesto etc are usually fine - I just checked the jars to avoid any particularly salty brands.

And if I knew DS had had a particularly salty meal, I'd just be a bit stricter at home for a day or two to even it out.

I will have to relearn salt-free cooking now I have a 5mo DD!
