"Cooked" wine for a baby?

I made a casserole this morning and used red wine in it. It has been cooking for many hours (and I didn't use salt). The meat is beautifully tender and I was thinking of popping some in the baby mixer for ds's supper (he's just short of 10 months). DH says I shouldn't give it to him due to the wine but surely all traces of alcohol evaporate in the cooking process?

I would, alcohol will be well gone

katymac · 17/10/2005 20:24

Me too - alcohol will have evaporated

shhhh · 23/10/2005 21:10

I wouldn't as the wine has been added for a reason...surely it has soaked up into something..?? The meat..?? It's the individuals choice though.
Suppose you will have a quiet night

tassis · 23/10/2005 21:11

I would

No worries whatsoever chicagomum. All the alcohol has gone.
Did (and do) so regularly.

NotQuiteCockney · 23/10/2005 21:23

I'm pretty sure, if it simmers for even a few minutes, all the booze is gone (alcohol boils at a much lower temperature than water, hence it disappears easily). I give my kids food with booze in all the time.

My parents love reminding us how we would all recoil in horror and shout 'Urgghhh! Mummy's cooking with beer!' when she was doing something very 'seventies' like a beef carbonnade.

Ironic considering how fond of alcohol we all are now...

dh cannot have any alsohol at all for medical reasons ( it could kill him) his consultant told us that 'cooked' alchol is fine, as the alcohol boils off, leaving the flavours but nothing else. Uncooked is not OK, so sherry trifle, tiramisu etc is right out

shhhh · 24/10/2005 09:47

mmm interesting...You learn somthing new...

starshaker · 24/10/2005 09:49

give him a nice lager shandy to wash it down with in his bottle

only joking i gave dd spag bol that was cooked with wine she loved it.

all traces of alcohol will most definitly have evaporated long ago.
bread has a bit of alcohol in it as a by product of the yeast. it gets boiled away in the oven

also years and years ago, babies were weaned onto something called small beer. never given dirty water..
