1 yr old dropping down the centiles. Any suggestions?

Sorry - this is long.

DD was 75th centile at birth and gradually climbed up the centiles so she was on the 91st centile at 7 months. From 8 months she started going down the centiles but that co-incided with her beginning to crawl so, even at her first birthday when she was on the 50th centile, no one seemed worried. However, she is now 16 months and is just above the 9th centile and only weighs 6oz more than she did when she was 7 months and an oz more than she did on her birthday. She did put on 7oz between her birthday and 13mo but has since lost that again.

Personally, I feel that she is eating adequately so I'm mystified as to why she's not putting on weight. She had 6oz milk when she woke up, 2/3 of a bowl of ready brek this morning (and by bowl, I mean I'd made up the 5 heaped dessert spoons and 150ml milk they recommend for a portion on the box), a banana during the morning, a bowl of pasta in cheese sauce with brocolli, peas and sweetcorn mixed in, she's just had a pancake and will have 2 fishfingers, a potato mashed and some beans for tea with, possibly, a yogurt (although she prefers to smear those rather than eat them at the moment) and another 8oz milk at bedtime.

She seems healthy & active, is walking, developmentally normal (can stack blocks, shape sort and has around 40 - 50 words). In the past 3 months when she's actually lost weight, she's had a few bad bouts of teething (now has 4 molars as well as front teeth) and had a couple of doses of antibiotics, so had a few spells of being off her food but that's it.

Any advice? Despite her being fit & healthy, I am worried and the HV has suggested I take her to the GP and get some blood tests done. When I meet up with friends whose babies are similar ages, its so noticeable how much bigger their children are and I bought DD some 12-18 month clothes today which are just swimming on her - the M&S jeans practically fell down they were so baggy in the waist.

Please reassure me or let me know how I can fatten her up a bit!

Thanks

My dd did this. She's now 2.7 and wearing anything from 9-12 months up to 12-18. Anything else just falls off her. I wouldn't say she stands out as shorter than the other kids at nursery but she is very skinny. The doctor has checked her and she is fine - just doesn't take after me!
I would go and get her checked to have your mind put at ease. If there is a problem it's better to know and deal with it and if there isn't then you just have a perfect petite baby. Good luck. x

At least I know DD isn't the only one! I've made a doctor's appt for next week and, in the meantime, will try and feed her as much as I can and go and swap the 12-18mth clothes for 9-12mth ones.

One small tip, when we saw a dietician about weight issues in DS (which I've never been to worried about tbh) a good tip I thought was to add olive oil to meals. Adds extra calories, but is quite healthy in its own way and doesn't add extra bulk which might put your kid off.

Thanks, Reading, that's a good tip
