OK
I have posted before but ds just wont eat today he had

dry rice krispies for breakfast (about 2 tablespoons)

mid morning was tiny slither of apple (less the bit next to the skin) and 3 tiny crackers

lunch was about 4 crisps (given in desperation to try and make him eat any of his ham sandwich)

supper was spag bol ate none then walked to cupbaord and demanded 1 rice cracker

he was given water frequently and BF ? 5x when awake ( a couple of those were very short)

His issues are liquids/soft food he wont have any other than water wont have sauces cheese milk yog etc hence the dry rice krispies.
I am really keen to cut the BF and indeed usually he will have 3 feeds a day and 1 overnight.

I would be really grateful for food ideas that aren't liquid and especially ones that give him more dairy (I will be more confident about decreasing BF if he is getting more dairy IYSWIM)

he will eat peas sweetcorn carrots pots etc he does usually eat pasta but not with a sauce

thanks

Mashed potato with butter and milk in maybe? How about those filled tortellini with ricotta inside? Would he eat rice cakes or crackers with soft cheese or butter spread on them?

hi N1N2,
I wouldn't worry about not getting dairy into him if he is still breastfeeding. I've been lactose intolerant since birth and have never eaten dairy and I turned out ok! Because of this I don't really believe that we need milk after we're weaned from the breast. (dairy producers have a powerful lobbying influence on the government, we are the only species who drinks milk past the time of our weaning, the calcium in milk is not as readily available to our bodies as, say, broccoli because of the protein in it) My ds is 5 months old and I will probably limit his dairy intake to small amounts. It sounds like yours eats other things ok so hopefully he will start on sauces eventually. I was a super picky kid and was much the same as him with my tastes in food and I think i read somewhere that you have to offer a kid a food up to 10 times before he'll try it.
Good luck, I'm sure he'll get the hang of it soon.

What about just simple chunks of cheese? Its not liquid or mushy but soft enough to chew through. Or cheesestrings.
Maybe you can start trying him with a beaker of warm cows milk.

Keep trying, he will get there eventually.

My DS (14 months) won't eat anything with batter or breadcrumbs over it. He's also suddenly gone off pasta. Not sure what has happened, just gotta go with the flow.

Also I'm sure I read somewhere that BF babies should have vitamins after 6 months. Maybe ask HV

Good luck

how old is he?

My DD was the same - refused milk, cheese, custard, cheese sauces etc & I decided to stop BF at 14 months as preg with DD2. She would eat yoghurt, scrambled egg & omlette (with lots of milk sneaked in), I added milk to mashed potato, fish pie was good with lots of milk in it. I was really worried about her calcium intake & discovered dried fruit (she'd eat apricots) has a fair bit in, along with bread & Heinz cheesy biscuit toddler snacks in the purple packets (can't remember what they're called!). Also gave her lots of fresh pasta with spinach & ricotta or tomato & mozarella. She still won't drink milk, only water & orange juice. HTH.
