How much water when weaning?

I'd really appreciate any advice as I am a first time mum. I have just started weaning my 6 month old DD. She still mainly has breatmilk, but also has some food at lunch and tea time (fruit and veg at this stage). My question is, how much water should I give/offer? I can't find anything in the books I have - it just says offer water. She doesn't seem to know what to do with the beaker and has never taken to a bottle. I have spoone some water into her mouth on a couple of her baby spoons, and she has some, but most comes out. How important is it that she has water at this stage? How much? How best to try to get her to take some? Sorry for all the questions. Any advice very gratefully received.

I wouldn't worry too much. If she is having plenty of breastmilk she is getting enough liquid. I would have a beaker of water around and offer it to her / have it where she can reach it. Eventually she'll decide she wants it and get the hang of it (esp if she sees other children with it out and about). Trying to remember what I did with my 2, but don't think they drank much water straight away, certainly not at 6 months - they're only just getting used to food. As long as you're still BF on demand and she's having wet nappies, she's getting enough liquid, I think!

I offer a beaker at every meal - it's taken a few weeks for ds to get the hang of it though. I started off with a non-spill one you have to suck on but he didn't get it at all, so switched to a cheap free flow one and he likes that much better.
