Which baby jars/pouches are the best?

I am currently weaning my 6m old DD who has been EBF to 23 weeks, and has been having some baby rice and home made fruit and veg purees since then. I intend to make as much of her food as possible. However, my DSis did the same with her LO but on a camping trip when it wasn't possible for her to prepare/store something delicious and nutritious herself, she bought a jar of food for her daughter - which she refused.

I want to give DD an occasional taste of readymade baby food so that in circumstances where I can't cook for her, for whatever reason, I'll still be able to feed her.

What I want to know is which baby foods are the least processed/unhealthy and when might be a good time to give her a taste so as not to prefer premade stuff to my delicious purees Wink. I know there's a big difference in quality. Ella's Kitchen, Plum and Hipp all seem to claim they're packed full of goodies but what would you suggest?

It's your dd who will choose but seem to recall plum and ellas more popular with dd than hipp- also the pouches were good when out and about

I used the occasional Ella's pouch. I would have eaten that myself as it looked (to my eye) more like "real" food than some other brands/jars.

realistically there will be very few occasions that you need to rely on a jar (not that there is anything wrong with them at all) it's just you seem to think you need to kind of prepare her just in case.

She may well be amenable to trying some finger foods also? Things like bananas or bread and butter are fab when out and about. I used to take plain yogurt and some naturally sweet fruit out quite often.

plum everytime, my baby wont eat anything but home cooked or plum, read the back ok a mums own jar the other day butternutsquash and sweet potato and it was only 40% veg, no wonder he wont eat that stuff!!

Like you I cooked myself usually, but both mine (one weaned on purée, the other BLW) liked the 100% fruit ones as pudding. I preferred them as it seemed closer to natural IYSWIM, as opposed to pureed meals which would have extra stuff in? No idea if that makes sense it's just my personal feeling really. Loads of companies do them, we used Boots, c&g and hipp.

Another vote for Plum. My DS isn't keen on any of the other pouches and singularly despised all the jars!

We vote for Ella's Kitchen and Plum, we only use them very occasionally but they always go down well, tried a hipp jar once and dd hated it (reading the ingredients every other ingredient seemed to be oil) these are now the only ones we ever buy.

It's always good to have a couple in the house just in case, you never know when you might have one of those 'I really can't be bothered' days!

My DD quite liked the hipp jars Blush Then again my DD quite liked any food I put in front of her Grin

DD2 likes Plum and there is a new brand called Zilli in Waitrose which if she can get the top off she will suck straight out the pouch!
