6mo not keen to eat anything

Started weaning DS2 just a week before he turned 6 mo.

How much babyrice mixed with BM is he supposed to be taking at the weaning stage? He's taking about 2 spoonfuls if that. Is that enough? His second tooth has just cut through.

Any advice? Am worried he's not getting enough to eat.

Don't worry, at this early stage it matter little whether he gets any in at all. Let him explore the sensation of having something other than milk in his mouth. He'll still be getting all the nutrition he needs from the milk.

Does he watch you eat? Would he like to hold the spoon and wave it around?

Thanks :)

So far, I've tried him once with each of these: mashed sweet potato, banana and scrambled egg with cheese. Have went back to babyrice because I thought perhaps the other tastes were too strong for him just now.

He has also had toast fingers but just spits them out once he's put them to his mouth.

Will just keep trying and not stress about it, he's still v young.

Have you tasted baby rice...no wonder he doesn't want to eat it! Wink

Just keep trying everything, don't forget, everything is new atm. He may not be ready for weaning yet anyway - 6 months is a guideline. Some are ready a bit before, some after :)

I give him a spoon to hold whilst I use another to feed him, and also done a bit of BLW with toast fingers when I'm making toast for myself, he gets some too.

He gets to see us all eat all the time. I think what is worse is that DS1 took to it all straight away and so I'm seeing such a difference between the two of them. Don't think I was expecting this!!

Ofcourse - it would be boring if both boys were the same. I'm sure it will all come together one day soon. As long as I'm trying him with something once a day I'll feel better and not worry so much about what calories he's getting as he's doing very well being breastfed as it is.

Thank you for the reassurance!! :)

Of my 3, one was grabbing food off my plate at 5m and another was utterly uninterested in solids until over 8m. I offered the latter bits of food most days, and when he eventually ate some and asked for more I knew he was ready for solids.

Both have always been on or over the 91st centile for height and 75th-91st centile for weight, healthy, sturdy and intelligent.
