I just started giving my little one sainsburys brand porridge as he loves his porridge a lot and its cheaper. I since been told by a few other mums that he cant have this because of the salt content does anyone no anything about this i thought it was ok in small doses i also mix it with fruit. am i better to stick with baby porridge ?

porridge oats only have salt in if you add it.

Look at the box! Smile

For a comparison, I have Aptamil Multigrain Breakfast baby porridge (I know it's expensive but it's easier for me as I don't have formula in the house, can't be bothered to express and don't keep f/f cows milk in all the time!) here that has 0.1g sodium per 100g.

Yeah it's fine. WincyEtNightie - Why use Aptamil stuff? YOu can just make porridge with semi-skimmed you know! It won't kill your DC! I make porridge with normal oats and we all eat it together, I can't imagine why you'd need to make it separately.

WincyEtNightie · 11/02/2011 20:00

MrsJamin, I know I could. I didn't think he'd explode or anything Grin It works for me just fine though. We don't all eat porridge together all the time either. We're not the 3 Bears Smile

PS OP, I also found a box of the scottish oats to compare with. Same salt content. I'd assume Sainsbury's own would be more or less the same. So you can tell your friends that Smile

Lol at the 3 bears! Smile

it's just a conspiracy by the baby food industry. There are loads of expensive baby foods that are no better than the cheaper adult versions - like the baby wheat biscuits v weetabix

Just checked 0.06g in Aptamil and 0.09g in Sainsbos own.
