Pine nuts in a casserole (11 month old)

Hello,

DD is 11 months old. I made a pork casserole with dried apriots, cumin, lots of creme fraiche and a handful of pine nuts. We enjoyed it, as did she.

But I'm having a guilt trip over the pine nuts!

Whizzed up in the blender they wouldn't have been a choking hazard, and they were nice and soft from cooking anyway, but.... Are nuts in any shape or form still a huge no-no at this stage?

What do you all think: paranoid or daft?

paranoid AND daft - there's no problem with pine nuts, my ds had pesto when he was that age

what's the recipe for your casserole? sounds yum

oh, it does sound tasty, please share the recipe!
pine nuts are seeds and not real nuts anyway. don't worry.

pine nuts aren't nuts they're seeds

stop freaking out

Thanks all! D'oh! of course they are seeds...I was pretty sure that they shouldn't have been a problem, but.

Anyway, there isn't really a recipe, as I made it up, but this is what I did. I used diced pork - a big pack of organic from Sainsburys, which had the bonus of being relatively cheap.

I softened a shallot or two in a frying pan with two cloves of garlic, and added a generous dessert spoon of cumin. I then browned the pork and added half a packet of dried apricots, which I chopped in half, and a generous handful of pine nuts.

Once the pork had browned I put it all in a casserole dish and added about three quarters of a large tub of creme fraiche, and then the rest of the apricots. Then it all went into the oven with the lid on for about an hour - not too hot, 175C ish. We ate it with baked potatos and broccili, while DD had hers whizzed up in the blender with mashed potato. It disappeared rather quickly.

You could use less onion/garlic/cumin if your baby isn't used to strong flavours. Mine, bless 'er, finds anything without rather bland!

Sorry not to get back sooner! I only have access at work now and have sadly had to get on with some grim, grim, marking...
