Is this enough milk?

DS is 6 months and just started full time at creche. He has 4 formula feeds of 210ml per day. I have started him on veg puree at midday meal and fruit in afternoon. He only has a few mouthfuls but it is a start.

At creche they offer puree first then milk. He has been having a bit of puree (no more than 10 tiny spoonfuls) but then won't drink all his bottle. Today he had 80ml and then 90ml in afternoon (he had his full 210ml at 7am with me and will no doubt drink his full 210ml at 7pm).

Is this enough fluid? I'm glad he is having more of the puree but concerned he will dehydrate (especially as he has a cold at the moment). Should I offer cold boiled water if he wakes in the night for example?

Thank you for any advice - I am a complete novice at this!

I work in oz so not sure what it would be in ml, but I think the guidelines are at least 20oz milk a day til they're 5. (After one change to cow's milk). I think this is quite normal, have been BLW my dd for approx 6 weeks and she has dropped her milk feeds to roughly 25oz a day. I do offer milk first then food about half hour to an hour after though to ensure she gets enough milk. Also make sure you offer water with every meal in regards to hydration, but after 6 months they can just have tap water!

How long is he in the creche? I would get them to offer milk at a different time from solids and see if that helps him maintain his milk intake e.g. I gave milk at 11am and lunch at 12pm and then milk at 2.30pm and dinner at 5pm. I gave a small amount of water in a lidded cup along with the solids too.

p.s. the guideline is 20oz (about 600mls) up to 1 year which then drops to about 12oz (approx 350mls) from 1 - 3 years.

It's about a pint that's recommended here in the UK (21oz I think?), including any milk or cheese or yoghurt in food. But that is just a guide - my advice would be to look at your LO and see if they appear happy and healthy.

Agree with alfonzo - offering tap water is a good plan.

He is in creche from 9am till 5.30pm and has 2 milk feeds and puree there.

At weekends I give milk at 11am then puree about an hour later but creche said (and doctor agreed with them) that puree should be offered first then milk afterwards. This has resulted in him drinking less than half of his bottle Sad.

He has also started waking up in the night after previously sleeping through. It may be due to his cold/teething but I'm going to try and offer him a mini bottle (120ml) in the night in case he is hungry/thirsty. I don't really want to as I weaned him off his night bottle at xmas but otherwise he starts screaming at 4am and won't settle until his 7am bottle.

at that age and stage of weaning milk is most important so I would see if they can do milk first. Milk has more calories than first solids so if he is drinking so much less during the day then he will be more likely to wake for it in the night. I never offered solids before milk as the day milk feeds were dropped and replaced with a snack and drink of water (not until around 9 months though). They should go by his needs rather than what they think should happen.
