Concerned he won't get enough if I BLW

Mine boy is 6.5mo, has been on solids since 5. Started purees, then mashed etc. He loves his food, clamours for his wheatabix in the morning. I'd like him to eat more himself but he just mashes it round the highchair and some into his face and not much goes in but a lot ends up on the floor. He has a hand grasp but not very good coordination and no pincer grip. He does well feeding his toast to the dog! If I start spooning less and giving him more finger foods i am concerned he won't get enough. At dinner he can have the equivalent (lovingly homemade) of two big pots of baby food. How do BLW people get enough food into their loved ones?

they don't, that's teh point. the baby eats what the baby eats, and of course you're not cutting back on milk. the thing is, if you're giving purees, you're giving purees, it's a bit of a gear change to stop that and 'do blw', it's best to start with blw from the off. why not just give him some finger food to eat alongside his purees?

i just assume she'll eat what she wants. i never bothered with spooning as dd wanted to do it herself from the very start so i just give her what we're eating, either whole(chips, toast, chip sized bits of chicken etc) or roughly chopped (pasta) or as it comes (curry and rice)

i also follow the mantras that 'food is for fun until they are one' and 'milk is major'
