What yoghurt?

Hi,

I've started giving DS yoghurt, but I wasn't sure which ones to get so I got Muller Little Stars because they said they were ok for weaning, however am a little concerned about sugar levels?

Surely these would be low sure as it says they are ok?

What does everyone else use?

Plain Greek yoghurt. You're right - little stars have got loads of sugar in them, as have petit filous and all the other ones aimed at kids.

Do yourself a huge favour & use plain yoghurt. DS won't know the difference if he doesn't have the sweetened kind. You could add chopped fruit - banana is good - but is not necessary

Yeo Valley natural yoghurt. I too avoid anything aimed specifically at children (higher in sugar, plus you pay a premium).

Another vote for plain, full fat yoghurt. DD would eat a whole pot (I'm talking 500g) if I let her.

And another vote for plain full fat yogurt. DS has greek yogurt and loves it. I mix in pureed apple and he gobbles it up in seconds!

Ok cool, I did try Yeo Natural yoghurt at the beginning, but I ended up buyng a big pot and throwing most it away as I don't eat natural yoghurt (because I'm a sugar freak...)

You can buy smaller pots of natural yogurt. I buy small (200g) pots of greek yogurt so we don't have to throw it away....

I buy Yeo Valley little yeos - they don't have sugar in them.

I know lots of people say just give plain natural yoghurt but I find I end up throwing half the tub away, plus I like the convenience of being able to take a little pot out with us if we're out and about.

My DS likes Rachel's Organic first yoghurts. They are just whole milk yoghurt with fruit puree.

LooL00 · 28/01/2011 10:55

Another vote for yeo valley plain. You can buy smaller pots.

exexpat · 28/01/2011 10:56

I used to buy greek yoghurt for the DCs and eat half of it myself with honey.

Ladyface · 28/01/2011 11:01

Agree - Rachel's Organic first yoghurts. My dd is nearly 3 and still has these (pfb emotion).

Suzie1601 · 29/01/2011 19:29

Yeo valley plain mixed with pear puree goes down very well with my dd.

Another vote for plain! DS does have Little Stars now (he's 3) but will still happily eat plain if it's available.

Sainsbury's used to do kids' fromage frais that had no sugar (or sweetener) but they stopped doing it in the little local one so I'm not sure if that's across all stores, or whether it would still be available in larger stores.
