Weaning with dairy intolerance and reflux

A little help would be appreciated, DS is 25 weeks and has reflux. This was eased somewhat by me cutting out dairy, he stopped the painful crying but still has mild reflux symptoms. I've started giving him bits and bobs and he's started up crying and being sicky again. He's had broccoli, raisins, toast, courgette and butternut squash over the course of about a week.
2 questions really:

  • Are there certain foods that are better for a reflux baby to start with?
  • Can I use Oatley milk on his Weetabix etc?
Any advice on starting this weaning thing would be good, DD didn't have any allergy issues. we're planning on doing blw mostly but with some spoons involved if necessary. TIA

bump - no one have anything?

We found that pureed pear, butternut squash, sweet potato and baby porridge were good staples to start with, and then I slowly added new foods in one at a time to check no reaction. Once my dd was onto meat then chicken seemed fine (used a annabel karmel chicken courgette and grape recipe alot)
Not sure about the oatly milk - the dietician we see says it's ok, but not particularly nutritious so we use nutramigen in cereal, but if your baby isnt on that and you dont have low weight worries then I would have thought oatly milk wd be fine.
Good luck.

Thank you, we do have low weight issues cos DS isn't gaining like he should be (very, very slowly). What do you use for fattening foods? I just can't see how he's going to gain properly on fruit & veg!

Good to know that oat milk's ok if we need it though, I might push for the GP to prescribe some formula for him.

Hello again. To add calories the main things I do are - add olive oil or margarine (vitalite or pure non soya) to everything savoury and use oatly cream in everything sweet. But we went more down the purée route to start. You can roast veg, or fry things. Avocado is quite high calorie, as is coconut cream. Potato waffle type things, with margarine melted on them are quite popular here too.
The most difficult thing I find is that my dd will hardly eat anything when her reflux is bad. Have you been prescribed anything to help with the hotmail

TheZee · 23/01/2011 06:24

Reflux, not Hotmail, not sure what happened there! Blimmin phone autocorrect!

Chulita · 23/01/2011 08:22

we've got ranitidene but I've not used it since cutting out dairy made a big difference. I find DS is the same re eating when his reflux is bad, he just loses his appetite completely.
I'll try avocado and I'm sure DD won't mind a few more potato waffles.
