Weaning foods for 6 month old

Hi

I started solids gradually for my baby right from when he was 4 months and have slowly increased quantity. He now takes 2 solid meals a day.

I tend to buy stage 1 foods from Boots, but most have cheese etc in them. Is this healthy or too high-fat? I did try just plain veggies steamed and pureed but ds just doesn't like these! I do steer clear of products with added salt and sugar though.

Thanks in advance!

Sweet potato or butternut squash, thinned with EBF/formula.
Carrot bulked out with baby rice.

With purees my lo thankfully like her pureed veg - but she also likes things like spag bol, shepherds pie, beef stew, chicken with veg, cod (fish finger without batter is easiest way and recommended by HV! lol) in cheese sauce. Is there a veg he prefers most that you could mix with other less-liked veg? my lo had a definite preference for carrot so I used to mix that in to most things in the early days, mix potato from either mashed potato or a baked potato with a veg and cheese sauce (baby sauces from Heinz are good).

Not sure what else you're using, but we use porridge and weetabix for breakfast and the Organix fruit pots are great for desserts and also for mixing in with weetabix to add natural sweetness :)

Sorry may not have helped at all! lol x

Thank you, will try the squash and milk and weetabix sounds good!

Is it okay to use cheese sauces at this age? He takes almost any veggie if its mixed with some cheddar, but not sure if its okay to give cheddar on a regular basis to a 6-month old. Isn't it high-fat?

If you're avoiding honey, whole nuts and undercooked eggs / undercooked seafood, you can give anything to a 6 month old.

High fat is fine for small children, so long as it's things like cheese, greek yoghurt, avocado rather than cream cakes!

At 6 months though you can move on a bit from the purees and give him mashed food and finger foods - suitable things from your plate too. You want to aim for a bit of variety though so maybe not cheese sauce every day.

My dd loves cheese! You can make your own cheese sauce or you can buy a Heinz one in the baby section of any supermarket. Dd is seven months now but at six months she was eating anything, spag bol, casseroles, shepherds pie (her favourite) and after six weeks of weaning we stopped puréeing anything and just mashed, also you can buy baby pasta at boots. IMHO the sooner you introduce some small easy lumps the easier

Thanks everyone, that really helps!
