ds is 6months and has been on purees for 6 weeks-as advised by hv, he's v.good at putting the spoon in bowl and into mouth (anything for food) when should i change the puree to mashed with lumpy bits?? he loves different flavours so no prob there.

his current feeding routine is breast when 1st up, baby porridge 10.30, breast through the day, dinner and pud at 4.30, breast and bed at 6.30, does that sound right? he sleeps through til 6-7.

Also he's keeps trying to take food off everyones plate, but i've stopped him, should i let him have solid (but appropriate)foods to try, well cooked veggies, toast etc???
Confused
lots of questions, sorry, but i'm not getting any helpfull advice or straight answers from friends, family or hv!!!

if you think he is up to it you can start to introduce lumps now if you want.

I let DD swipe stuff of my plate if it is suitable. She is 8.5months and has been doing it since about 6 months. She was weaned at 5 months.

Good finger foods are toast, roasted veg, fish fingers, cherrios, quartered hard boiled eggs, berries, cut up grapes, cheese, the list goes on Smile

You might want to think about introducing lunch into your routine. other than that i think it looks fine.

oh and dont forget to offer water with meals.

You need to look at Baby Led Weaning. It sounds like that is what your little one wants. Thsi way you can sack the purees and go for it within reason.
Works brilliantly when babies are interested.
Look it up on internet. and good book by Gill Rapley.

Also to add to the list of finger foods don't forget boiled veg (also great for dipping in purees, so batons of carrots, florets of brocolli, I wouldn't do tomatoes though.

Err on the side of overboiling so that they are definitely soft and not a choking hazard.

Lots of people mix purees with finger foods from 6 months. Food from someone else's plate can be allowed as long as it isn't laiden with sugar/salt, nuts or honey (assuming you have no allergies in the family) - at this stage making food/mealtimes fun and encouraging them to try stuff is the name of the game.

And don't worry about the advice your hv is giving you - babies and weaning methods are so different, it's hard to say 'you need to do X'. It does get much easier with time, but for the moment you will feel uncertain, but just try to be led by her.

I never gave purees. From 6 months when she was ready for solids, I just gave her what we were having.
