This is going to sound like a stupid question, but what do you put the food on/in?

I tried a bowl but DS tipped it up and threw it on the floor. I tried a kitchen towel but that went on the floor too. In the end I just put it on the table (we have a highchair that tucks into the big table).

What do other people do?

Just on the highchair tray, but in your case the table i suppose. You can get suction bowls as well. Or a rubber suction mat thing which has a sort of tray thing to catch food at the bottom. Can't remember what they're called, will try to remember and post a link.

just put it on the table (I have the ikea highchair so put it straight on the tray)
don't overwhelm them to start off with just put a small bit out and if they like it put some more out. If there is not too much out in the first place there is less to swipe straight on to the floor Grin

Suction mat thing here

i just put it on the table too

Besom is talking about a Kiddopotamous Tiny Diner mat. They are brilliant. They suction onto the table (but not so great on wood) and the scoop at the front catches most of the food that misses the mouth (not much help when they start chucking things though Grin). It also rolls up into the scoop, so great for out and about too.

We started off just putting things on the mat (or high chair tray). We moved on to crockery and cutlery more around a year.

x-post Grin

Besom, I was just looking at those!

I have a couple of tiny diner mats - they are good but just don't suction to our table at all! But handy to have to nonetheless.

I generally put stuff on tables if we're out and about - I carry milton wipes to wipe down the table first (not caring if anyone thinks i look like a loon!).

We just put food straight on the (Antilop) highchair tray. DS only liked one or two things in front of him at a time, or he would end up sweeping the whole lot onto the floor.

We also found one of those pelican bibs very handy so DS could pick up bits himself that he had accidentally dropped, it eased the frustration when he was mastering his pincer grip. We found the floppy, travel TT one better than the rigid one.

DS now has a lovely habit of fishing peas or bits of salmon out to add to his yogurt Hmm

Yeah just straight on to the high chair tray here - we also only give one or two bits at a time or it all goes on the floor..

We also have a mat underneath the high chair which can be wiped down.

Old topic I know but I use a heavy wooden chopping board.
