What's your baby eating today?

I have a nightmare thinking of 3 meals a day which are varied and have enough fruit/veg in them, I always feel like I will overload him with wheat. He is 6 months and eats like a horse and I'm struggling to keep up with his appetite.

So what are you feeding your child today?

So far DS has had toast and marge with plums for breakfast, and I cooked a stew last night so he has that for tea. Not sure about lunch yet.

Porridge for breakfast (good way of avoiding wheat for one meal) + banana

Carrot muffin for snack

Shared bits of our pizza while out, dipping in sour cream, satsuma

Mini babybel

A couple of breastfeeds

Will be scrambled egg, baked beans, mashed potato, peas for tea. More fruit, I think I've got blueberries.

DD is 8.5months

8am Breakfast - 8oz milk + weetabix with 3oz of milk

11:30 Lunch - spaghetti sauce with pasta stars. Yoghurt. 1/4 ripe avocado to munch on.

2.30 Afternoon tea - 8oz milk + 2 fish fingers chopped up into bite size bits

6.00pm Dinner - Chicken coconut curry, fruit pot. 7.30pm 8oz milk

amyboo · 03/01/2011 09:52

DS is 9 months. Today his food is:
6.30am - 8oz bottle
7.30/8am - half a weetabix with cow's milk (basially so he doesn't scream while I eat my breakfast!)
11am ish - pasta with a broccoli, carrot and cheese sauce (pureed veg in the cheese sauce - made with mature cheddar which he loves!), followed by greek yogurt with some pureed apple mixed in.
3pm ish - banana (which he feeds himself) and a biscuit.
5pm - end of the french stick (we live in Belgium) to chew on, or 1 egg scrambled, or a piece of toast and spread.
6.45pm - 8oz bottle

Breakfast is sometimes yogurt or porridge or scrambled egg. Lunch is a variety - yesterday it was chilli con carne with rice (and I chucked in some extra veg), and the day before it was salmon with carrots and tomatoes.

I use Annabel Karmel's baby and toddler meal planner and I find it's a really good at showing you ways to hide veg in things - to make sure they get enough. DS also eats like a horse though, and would essentially eat however much I decided to give him. He often cries when food is gone - I find that giving him things to feed himself (like pieces of fruit or toast) helps him take longer over food and not cry when it's gone!

Hmmm, ok, it seems like you are all feeding them 4 times. DS would love that, but it needs more organisation from me!

Some great ideas so far that I have nicked already

belindarose love the carrot muffins. Is that your own recipe or where did you get them? I would love to make some that I could put in the freezer for snack times.

So today's menu is:

Breakfast: 9oz bottle and porridge
Lunch: pasta and pesto, maybe with some chicken, fruit puree pot for dessert
Dinner: Roast beef, carrots and parsnips with new potato, yoghurt with fruit for dessert.

Fortunately he loves veg (except broccoli) so I'm not having to hide it yet. I do have the Annabel Karmel book somewhere so will have a look. I got it off ebay and then ditched it when we went the BLW way.

Darn strike out, meant to preview but was too lazy.

Carrot muffins were from the new BLW cookbook, but any recipe would do. No sugar in these ones, but DD still accepts they are 'cake'! I make them in greased jam tart tins, so they come out pretty small and any muffin recipe makes loads. Freeze very well.

Hi ds is 7 months and today I gave him
baby orange segments, pieces of banana and some plain bio yoghurt for breakfast but he actually ate more of my toast and jam!
He had rice cakes and hummous for lunch which he spread all over himself and me.
Tonight I am making roasted butternut squash and goats cheese pastries so will try him with them and potatoes.

His favourites so far are pasta and any type of tomato sauce or any veg puree for that matter (I use rigatoni or penne so he can grab them and feed himself), guacamole or hummous (home made on rice cakes) Sticks of any roasted veg, banana pancakes, crepes with fruit in

Today dd ate
Breakfast- 8 oz formula followed by baby cereal
Mid morning -6 oz formula
Lunch -veg and lentil korma with pasta, juice
Tea- egg and cream cheese sandwich, tiny fromage frais, some orange segments, water
Before bed -8 oz formula

Dd is almost 12 months. She ate most of her lunch and tea today.

putthekettleon · 06/01/2011 11:44

DD2 is 6 months. Menu for today is:

Breakfast - baby porridge
Lunch - Lentil and veg mush (it has lentils, onion, pepper, courgette, potato, carrot... a mashed up version of the lentil cottage pie I made for dinner last night, taken out of the cooking pot before I added the stock cube!)
Dinner - butternut squash puree

pudding is either banana or pear, with some rice cakes on the side as finger food.

And probably about 4-5 breastfeeds inbetween.

Like the idea of carrot muffins, might encourage DD1 to eat carrots!

TheSkiingGardener · 09/01/2011 03:25

Well today it was lunch out, which he loved. Overall we had

Breakfast - baby porridge ( using it up now, then moving on to readybrek)
Lunch - French bread with goats cheese. Grilled chicken, new potatoes and peas, followed by ice cream and wafer. Apple juice and water to drink.
Dinner - beans on toast and apple and peach purée.

Got about 600ml of milk into him during the day but completely refused his bedtime milk. He'll be extra hungry in the morning now.

I'd forgotten how much he loved butternut squash when we were first weaning. Think I will roast him some of that. Your recipe sounds nice goodname

Mummy2Bookie · 09/01/2011 14:32

Dd also enjoys shepherds pie and pizza ( both homemade)

Mae34 · 09/01/2011 16:31

DD is 7 months and had porridge and strawberries for breakfast, parsnip and cheese for lunch with apple mush for pudding and will have some carrot and lentils for dinner with a yoghurt if she's hungry...
