If it is cooked e.g. honey roast parsnips at christmas dinner?

AFIK no, because the (potential) botulism spores aren't destroyed by normal cooking temperatures. TBH the risk is tiny, but it is a risk and botulism is nasty.

What fibernachi said.

I agree with fibernachi, I was about to write exactly the same but she beat me too it :o

Not wishing to scare anyone but botulism can be fatal.

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 13/12/2010 12:36

No.
There is no guarantee that the honey would be free of botulinum spores.
Having searched for you, I found research that suggested roasting in an oven at 175degC does not effectively kill all spores of Bacillus cereus, and that isn't as heat resistant as C.botulinum, so it's not worth the risk

Use maple syrup instead.

HowardsLongLostLove · 13/12/2010 12:42

It's not worth the risk!

I read recently that they are saying not under 2 now. I still haven't given Ds any yet and he is 17 months

Thanks! I wasn't sure if the botulism would be destroyed in the oven but obviously not...
