Depends what you eat

misdee · 25/09/2005 19:02

as long as its not blended macdonalds. lol

Gobbledigook · 25/09/2005 19:03

How old is she - she can pretty much eat what you do after 12 months.

NomDePlume · 25/09/2005 19:04

keep your eye on the salt content of what you eat if you are blending it up for DD.

hunkermunker · 25/09/2005 19:05

Yes, was going to say that re salt - but DS was eating pretty much what we ate from the time he first had food.

And no, we don't eat baby rice casserole

edam · 25/09/2005 19:07

Vague memory that you aren't supposed to give meat until about 9 months...

starshaker · 25/09/2005 19:15

dont add salt to anything anyway.

does that mean i can blend a kfc or a chinese damn will need to think of something else

if you make most fo your meals from scratch, and dont much in the way of packets and jarred sauces, then you should be ok.

NotQuiteCockney · 26/09/2005 21:37

I just gave table scraps, as is, meat and all, from 6 months. No blending.

We don't use a lot of salt, though.

checky · 26/09/2005 23:20

I tried to give my 6 month old bits this weekend but he choked and it really scared me. How do I move from puree to lumps?

NotQuiteCockney · 27/09/2005 06:45

checky, did you give him lumps in a puree? Or did you give him finger food?

Some kids (I'm told), suck puree in, so when there are lumps, the lumps go straight to the back of their throats, and they choke.

Also, are you sure he was choking, and not just gagging? (Was he breathing?) Gagging is inevitable, and not actually a problem, while choking is, obviously, a problem.

checky · 28/09/2005 09:17

Hi I tried again yesterday with finger food and its no good he chokes or gags. To be honest I am not sure which! I just panic!!
What would be the best thing to start with, any ideas?

lindster · 20/10/2005 22:28

is it safe then to give a six month old our food (without salt etc) if i put it in the blender? At the moment i add veg and fruit to the packet mixes but they get expensive and id rather give him what we eat. My HV said to start mashing his food rather than blending but not sure if this is too early? Also worried that certain meats may not blend well.

startingtobehalloweenylover · 20/10/2005 22:32

lindster you should be absolutely fine just maching up various fruit and veg for your son! don't worry too much about blending it completely smooth...

have no idea about meat as ds is vegetarian.. but i don't see any reason why ytou can't blend meat

lindster · 20/10/2005 22:38

i was also wondering (so many questions!!) somtimes i may use a colemans packet mix or a jar as a base for our dinner. not sure about salt content in them but i guess its ok? I think you could end up worrying too much, well i would anyway!

hunkerpumpkin · 20/10/2005 22:39

Have a look at the sodium content, then double it (I think) for salt content.

They're usually very high in salt, packet mixes. Try using tinned tomatoes, veggies and herbs in sauces, with a dollop of wholegrain mustard.

startingtobehalloweenylover · 20/10/2005 22:40

qwould be careful about salt content in packet mixes... and stock too

babies can get very ill from too much salt

lindster · 20/10/2005 22:44

its a good incentive for me to make my own sauces! thanks for the help. oh and one last question i promise (as need to go to bed!) when can i give readybrek?

elastamum · 20/10/2005 22:46

I was bought up on blended food and so were my litle ones. To start i used to keep back some veg and do that and then gradually added the rest of the meal. Then I used to just mash it up and feed that. We never coook with salt though

startingtobehalloweenylover · 20/10/2005 22:46

no idea about that either... use ordinbary porridge oats!

have a look on the packet though, as long as it has no added sugar or salt i'd go for it!

elastamum · 20/10/2005 22:46

Dont know anything about readybrek, used to always give weatabix

aloha · 20/10/2005 22:47

Readybrek is fine whenever.
