Its the 'working class Mumsnet' Frank Field proposed Grin

PassionKissUnderTheMistletoe · 07/12/2010 13:58

Oh thesecondcoming I'm sorry!! She's not feeding 2 hourly in the day time if that helps - just at night time (and definitely for the fun of it, not because she's hungry)

It's lucky for them that they're cute isn't it Grin

peppapighastakenovermylife · 08/12/2010 07:43

I think the more evil they are, the cuter they are too. Survival Wink

aBrightStarWithFestiveWays · 08/12/2010 07:50

My favourite comment on there is 'I just looked at all the baby food in the supermarket and they all say from 4 months, so I'm going to start at 4 months.'

belgo · 08/12/2010 07:53

A 'friend' of mine was bragging about how her 3 month old baby was sleeping through the night, having started him on solids two weeks previously.

What can you say to that?

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 08/12/2010 07:56

wow

wow

just WOW

I mean I've met some fucking thick people

and I've heard of alot more but

WOW I am shocked that there are poeple so fucking thick in the world

belgo · 08/12/2010 07:59

Trinity - it's not just that, but how 'sleeping through' seems to be the primary objective of many new parents.

Of course sleep is important but there is so much more to being a good parent.

mamacheeks · 08/12/2010 08:51

I love this thread. My 7 month DS also woke two hourly to bf last night after large tea and, due to living in godforsaken place where every mother is formula-feeding or control crying their child into 13 hours of sleep a night, I was beginning to feel like a total disaster. Passionkiss - you make me very happy!

peppapighastakenovermylife · 08/12/2010 09:44

Sleeping through seems to be equated with somehow being a good mother and having a happy baby (and must be rather nice too).

Babies are not supposed to sleep that deeply or that long though - that is one of the reasons they believe dummies may reduce cot death because they stop that deep deep sleep as the baby is sucking away - just like a breastfed baby would spend most of the night latched on (sigh).

theresapotatoundermysink · 08/12/2010 10:34

My DD does sleep through, maybe waking once for a feed. This has been her doing, not mine.

She's 5 months, EBF and I haven't started weaning. Please don't put me in the same category as these other women just because she sleeps through!

belgo · 08/12/2010 12:53

We won't theresapotatoundermysink Xmas Smile But we are allowed to be an incy bit jealous thoughXmas Wink

glovesoflove · 08/12/2010 14:54

Maybe it is right to cut HVs, nobody seems to have any respect for anything they say! I wonder if the posters on that thread ignore other advice about SIDS for example? We need better health education in schools, then people would understand where recommendations come from, and better antenatal provision would hopefully avoid anyone expecting a 9 week old to go all night with no feed or a baby to go 6 hours (!!!!!) between feeds.

COS U NO UR OWN BABBIE HUN xx

It is worrying, as a HCP I know that recommendations aren't made for fun. And guidelines do change, but that's because new research is done!

That's the start of a poem isn't it?

Ieattoomuchcake · 08/12/2010 19:34

My favourite is the poor poster trying to very politely suggest that it's best to wait till six months, and even suggesting BLW.
I do however also love milf and her comment 'my mum was born during ww2 and fed sterilised cows milk and she never came to any harm'... Surprised she didn't suggest the others just boil up some regular milk for their DCs rather than 'waste' money on formula!!!

Habbibu · 08/12/2010 19:38

Could also argue that being born during WW2 and not being bombed meant that WW2 was, in fact, perfectly safe...

I found mumsnet through bountygate 2 years ago

I had never heard of mumsnet and was a member of bounty. I was regularly in arguements about early weaning etc as I am a firm believer in waiting. Then there was a huge argument when mumsnet hijacked the board and I came over to the darkside!!

and I've not left since Grin

(would like to mention I have also not been back there until today!)

NormalityBites · 08/12/2010 20:50

Oh God.

Oh god why did I read it?

belgo · 09/12/2010 07:34

Smokinaces - that's fantastic!

It's the same in Belgium btw, I went onto a local flemish forum where a mother said her 10 week old baby was ill with d&v. I advised her to take him to the doctor, other posters advised her to give the baby baby rice!

Scaredycat3000 · 10/12/2010 21:35

That is scary Sad Glad I found here first.

I find it particularly worrying due to the endorsement IYSWIM with the distribution of the packs?

jaggythistle · 11/12/2010 09:59

Heinz baby food says 4 months so that must be the rule... Hmm

There seems to be a lack of knowledge about how often it is normal for tiny babies to want feeding, whatever milk they are drinking :(

FairiesWearSnowBoots · 11/12/2010 10:34

farleys rusks say 4 months and they contain gluten!

thehumanpacifier · 15/12/2010 12:15

Scary post, definitely agree with scaredycat about the endorsement and the packs. Was one of the first things handed to me in hospital, after my DS!

and rusks in bottles...?! Shock

PenguinArmy · 18/12/2010 06:26

OMFG

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 18/12/2010 12:43

those packs should not be allowed in hospitals

it is a disgrace

i told the bounty rep i didn't want one thank you and she looked at me like i'd shat in her tea, then said 'but you need it for your child benefit forms'

told her i'd got them off the internet and she huffed off

disgusting that the govt let them give the impression bounty is somehow 'official'

PeasPlease · 18/12/2010 14:10

When I had DD1 I used Bounty for breast feeding advice before I found mumsnet. There was a poster called JungleMama or something who was hugely helpful and sensible. Everyone else seemed to be about 16. I see nothing much has changed.
