I need ideas please. DD2 has suddenly taken against drinking anything from her sippy cup, after previously taking water from it happily.

She's 8mo this weekend and FF. Has been drinking water with meals from a Tommee Tippee spouted cup for the past couple of months.

The problem started when I tried to give her her afternoon milk feed from said cup. She didn't want to know. I didn't push it, but kept trying again every couple of days. I then decided that I would try and put milk in her cup at meal times when she is happy to drink water from it normally. This, it seems, was a big mistake as she is now flatly refusing to drink ANYTHING from her cup - feels like we've gone several steps backwards.

I think I need to 'trick' her back into accepting the cup, at least for water to get her back to square one, then we can deal with milk later.

She's been quite upset by the whole thing today. I'm wondering if I should not bother with the cup at all for a day or two so she 'forgets' about any issues she may have, or should I just carry on as normal offering her water in it as before? Alternatively I could get a totally different cup and see if that works. It's so bloody annoying as we were doing so well :(

I'm sure someone will have better advice than me, but we had something similar with our DD (now 11 mo). She was drinking water quite happily from this beaker and then flatly refused to have anything from it or even really put it in her mouth. We tried every drink under the sun to try and get water/liquid down her but she wouldn't touch it.

I had one of these that we were going to start putting her milk in so one meal we used this for water and she loved it! (We didn't use the valve bit). I think the spout on it is a bit bigger and softer and also she was interested in it as it was 'different'. We then bought one of these and she is now drinking water happily again from it.

We will be trying milk in the cow one tomorrow/over the weekend so hopefully that won't put her off again!!!

Good luck with it...

After trying about 30 different cups with DS, this was the only one that worked. Once he got bored of that, cups with straws kept his interest. Once he got old enough he had a normal open cup (preferably Daddy's mug) with a normal straw in it.

Thanks everyone!

I'll get her a new cup today and see how we go!

Update:

Just bought the Nuby Sip 'n' Grip as recommended. At least the spout is soft so if I do have to try and push it in her mouth a bit, it won't hurt her gums.

Just tried it with her lunch and she is still very suspicious and refusing to have any spout in her mouth if givven by me, but she is waving it around and will put it to her mouth by herself, althoiugh she isn't yet great at tipping it enough to get the liquid.

I think I have to be patient (not my strong point) and hope that she'll take to it sooner or later.

Grabbing it and putting it in her mouth herself is a great start - give it a few days and I reckon she'll be drinking a bit from it for you!

Thanks Hercules and good luck with your cup challenge too!
