Started solids at 4 months, can we now stop and wait?

In a bit of a pickle! On my mum's advice I started my DS on baby rice at 4 months and have now progressed to veg and fruit purees and baby porridge (he's now 5 months). He is a very big baby and was still bf every 2 hours during the day, so solids was in an attempt to give me a rest from constant bfeeding. However, having now read more about current guidelines, I'm concerned I've started him too early and wonder if we can have a 'pause' and start baby led weaning after 6 months? Since starting the solids he's developed some exzema and little spots on his face (could be unrelated or teething, and doc isn't worried about them) and gets pretty constipated which causes him some discomfort. He was also very colicky until around 3 months and I'm pretty sure that was due to an immature gut. Any thoughts to help me out? Confused

If he's 5mo why not try BLW now if he's ready? It's only a matter of 4 weeks max before he hits 6mo anyway.

Give water throughout solid feed to help const. and add water to purees.
My boy is exactly same age and huge, if I were to stop solids now he would scream with hunger...
He has 5 breast and one formula feeds a day (between 6am and 7pm) plus three mini meals!
I am waiting for 6 month for him to have gluten so toast etc. This makes more of the baby led stuff.
Frankly, I am far too tidy a person to give my baby free reign in eating by themselves!
There is too much vitriol on this site about waiting and baby led ... Go with your gut feeling.

Mine started at 4.5 - 5 months and took to it straight away. Some babies are ready for it some aren't. At the end of the day most babies before ours were weaned much earlier and they are not the ones who are being told in a few years time 30 per cent of the population will be obese.

My LO is still a little under average and wish she would eat a bit more. She also has had a lot of problems with allergies(namely milk) and eczema which started a while before weaning.

They go through phases anyway. Some weeks she eats hardly anything (teething/cold etc) other times like a horse, so as long as its healthy stuff I wouldnt worry at all.

...... ad in a few years time they will change the guidlines again anyway!

Thanks for your messages peeps, I'm going to go with my gut and carry on slowly, no rush to get him eating three meals a day! You're right, there;s a lot on here about waiting and BL, so just question myself sometimes

Hi! My daughter is 25 weeks today and was weaned at 20 weeks which was agreed with HV and GP. This was after trying hungrier baby milk, increasing feeds etc.

I was worried about weaning early but she loves her food!

She is now on baby porridge/cereal for breakfast.

Has just started fruit/veg puree for lunchtime

And also has a fruit/veg puree for tea time.

I am going to start her on some soft solid foods soon as think she is ready now. She sits up straight in her highchair etc and is already managing more lumpier foods.

I would carry on as you are going if he seems to be enjoying his food
