When can I give my 6 mo BLW baby Smarties?

This BLW stuff is amazing. So far DD has enjoyed soft foods like Haribo, Milky Ways and haggis. It's going really well as she just helps herself and enjoys chewing - her face muscles are developing really well!

What I don't know is when I can move her onto more challenging foods. I'm thinking of introducing Maltesers as they're the lighter way to enjoy chocolate, but does she need teeth before she can tackle something crunchy, like Smarties?

So, so inadequate, love her.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 13/11/2010 21:04

Ha! You think you lot got the smarties down their necks early? I forcefed DH buckets of the things before we got down and did the nasty. The kid came out my fanjo begging for a tube of the good stuff.

My goodness, I held off till she was 6 mo before weaning her so as to avoid her developing allergies, but I can see that I may have inadvertently stunted her gastronomic and intellectual development! What should I do? Should I give her a Smartie/ Crunchie/ gobstopper mix for breakfast? I could blend them into a sort of sweetie smoothie - obviously I'd add a banana for vitamins.

I wouldn't even bother with the banana, too much sugar in one of those things..

nigglewiggle · 13/11/2010 21:14

Can't you get mini banana gummy sweets? I think they sell them alongside the false teeth. If you replace 'proper' bananas with these you will get more bananas into her in one go.

Jiggery, I hope you'd shaved or at least trimmed before introducing the Camels. that's a FIRE HAZARD, you fool. God, some parents.

MrsHoshJolloway · 13/11/2010 21:24

Ooo, good advice, niggle.

Can you believe someone once suggested I give her fruit pastilles? They're covered in sugar, FFS!

How dare you Habbibu. I have the full Hollywood, I'm not having my children scarred by seeing pubic hair, that's just wrong.

I was presuming MrsHJ was going to put in one of those foam bananas, you know, like shrimps. Apparently, there's a fish called shrimp too, isn't that funny? No idea if it's as delicious as the foamy pink sweetie though.

Mine just have coffee and fags for breakfast because I don't want them getting obesity I suggest you do the same MrsHJ.

TragicallyHipPomBear · 13/11/2010 21:34

JiggeryPoverty good advice, I may start DS on that in the morning as he is starting to get a 'beer belly'

MissBeehiving · 13/11/2010 21:38

Fruit pastilles count as one of your five a day surely?

MrsHoshJolloway · 13/11/2010 21:39

Jiggery you are inspired. Fags'll keep their weight down beautifully.

More than one, you've got strawberries, blackcurrants, oranges, limes, lemons.... I reckon that's your daily requirement in one pack.

Might be worth sticking a bit of SunnyD in her bockle just to be sure though.

onimolap · 13/11/2010 21:46

Before she teethes, can I recommend Flying Saucers? The quasi-polystyrene outer gums down beautifully, and will really make her work for the sherbert hit inside.

MrsHoshJolloway · 13/11/2010 21:48

Bee and niggle, I like your thinking. Then of course you wash it all down with Fruit Shoots in the baby's bottle.
