hi there

we started weaning 10 days ago, planned to do a combination of purees and blw, had 3 good days on purees but also some bad days when he wasn't interested. we seem to be doing more and more blw and he enjoys it, has fun and i know every mealtime is beneficial with blw because he's learning skills such as hand eye coordination and learning about food.

i think what's given me more confidence about blw with ds is that he isn't getting loads down him with the purees anyway (except the 3 good days, which were a week ago...) and also with the gagging concern that worries most people, well ds gagged quite a lot on purees too Sad

so basically, i'm thinking of going to total blw, but....can experienced blw mums please just reassure me that he will start actually getting some food down him eventually? how long does it take to get a decent amount of food in him, and how long does it take for babies on blw to eat 3 good meals?

and what do you do when visiting people who dont understand blw?

thanks

I've just started BLW too :) As far as I am aware baby doesn't really need any food until they are about one.

My DD doesn't eat much, but the contents of her nappy show that some stuff is going down, albeit probably accidentally Grin

I'm not sure I count as an experienced blw-er, but my son is now 16 months and never accepted purees. He suddenly switched on to the idea of eating meals around 11 months, but was enjoying breakfast before that. Because they eat when you eat, they start on 3 meals a day (assuming they're awake!) pretty much immediately, but I found that before I started dropping bottles, he didn't notice if he missed meals as long as we weren't eating in front of him.

Having done it once, I'd definitely recommend it as seeming much easier. The only stress I had was that it took him so long to eat anything, but now I know that they do eventually, it'll (hopefully) be easier next time!

Sorry to highjack- but that is really reassuring babybouncer. We've been BLWing for about 6 wks and I am struggling to accept how little DD is eating.

We have a few days coming up with MIL in charge whilst I'm at work and am not looking forward to her realising how little progress we've made since she was last here:( At least I can say some other BLW babies take a long time to start consuming much too.

She will happily eat porridge, yogurt and stewed fruit from a pre-loaded spoon but is less interested in finger foods than she was a month ago. Has anyone else seen this sort of pattern?
