Foods to start BLW with

Hi. DD is 28 weeks but I was holding off weaning as I didn't think she was ready to feed herself. Today I was eating a yoghurt and she was sitting in her bumbo. On a whim I stuck a baby spoon in the yoghurt and handed it to her and she loved it. I think handing 'loaded' spoons to baby is ok in BLW??
So, I had planned on starting her on carrot sticks etc but now I just want to use what I have in the house. I have ratatouille which I thought I'd give her for lunch tomorrow. I expect she'll just squeeze it between her hands and lick her fingers. But it will have chunks of veg, with skins etc in it. Am I best avoiding this and sticking to larger traditional finger foods or does thus sound ok?

I don't know anybody in RL who does BLW so sorry if this is a daft question.

Loaded spoons are fine, it's all about giving the control over to your baby.

Ratatouille sounds great! She can have pretty much anything at 6 months, bar whole nuts, honey and undercooked eggs.

Give her a bit and see what happens! She might find it a bit tricky, but it's all just trial and error.

Have you read the book? Great read if you haven't.

Also, check out the forum at www.babyleadweaning.co.uk - lots of people there whose brains you can pick!

Ratatouille will be great. I'm a great believer in just giving them whatever you are eating at the time - if they can't manage it, they won't eat it !

Thanks for your replies. I chickened out and gave her parsnip and a bit of apple!
The parsnip was a hit, the apple less so. I think she maybe needs softer, wetter things for now. So ratatouille tomorrow!!

You can always microwave the apple until it is soft - that's what I did until DS got some teeth!

Have fun
