Cows milk

Ok, so one HV told me I can put cows milk on my lo cereal and another one said to wait until 1yr.

She is 7 months old and have weetabix or ready brek for brekkie. I know I waited until my first child was 1 yr before giving it.

I understand they can't have it as main drink until 12 months but surely if it's a problem with digestion they shouldn't be having it at all not even a small amount on cereal???

Anyone give me a definitive answer?!
Thanks

As I understand it, it's not a problem with digestion. It's just that cow's milk is so nutritionally inferior to breastmilk or formula that it shouldn't be used as a drink until 12 months.

It's fine on cereal or in cooking, see NHS guidelines here:

"whole cows? milk doesn?t contain enough iron and other nutrients to meet babies? needs so it shouldn?t be given as a drink to babies under one year old. It?s fine to use cows' milk when cooking and preparing food for your baby."

Unless..... there are any histories of food allergies in your families? Then I would get a GP's opinion given that HV's don't seem able to agree!

RJandA is right. It's fine to use cow's milk for making up porridge, ready brek, adding to mashed potato etc.
