Started BLW this morning, toast and apple were a BIG hit.
I would love to know what other babies have loved to try, not much of a cook and need inspiration!

ohh didnt know could give toast, want to start BLW too.
Off to give DD some toast for the first time. Will report how it all went!

HabbiBOOOO · 02/11/2010 09:44

little fat pancakes are great as you can shove anything into the batter - fruit, veg, tuna, chicken, etc.

HabbiBOOOO · 02/11/2010 09:44

Be a bit wary of apple, as it breaks into chokeable chunks very easily.

eeyore2 · 02/11/2010 09:45

Bananas!

misskaur08 · 02/11/2010 10:31

Toast was most unfaverable!
DD pulled faces and pushed it out with tongue,
always tommorrow

maninthemooncup · 02/11/2010 10:37

Will be wary with apple, but I gave her a teeny one that I had taken a bite out of and she doesn't have teeth yet so she just sucked it!

We made the toast quite crispy and cut it into soldiers with some butter on, I don't know if any got swallowed but she really enjoyed chewing on it.

The pancakes idea is brilliant, thank you! Will have a rumble through the fridge and see what we've got :) and bananas were on my shopping list anyway but I'll buy extra!

Well DD will eat anything now, but in the early days...nectarines/peaches, ricecakes with cream cheese, roast potatoes, roast sweet potato...

Fifilottie · 02/11/2010 10:49

Pancakes...what a good idea. Can't wait to try that!

My DD loves sticks of mango or mini cheese toasties. She adores peeled grapes and strawberries but they are a bit slimey...and of course the ultimate favourite for the little monkies...BANANAS!!

Fifilottie · 02/11/2010 10:51

ps with bananas you can just leave a bit of peel on for a handle and then cut it down as they eat...otherwise it can be very slippy and end up on the floor

maninthemooncup · 02/11/2010 10:54

god I love toasties, but I'm supposed to be on a diet. If it's for her though...I could do a baked bean one with a bit of cheese and cut her a corner off to play with.

We're having cold roast chicken for tea so I think I'll make some chunky chips with sweet potato to go with, and steam some carrot batons, she can have a go on them!

yy, whole apple better than slices. Pitta breads stuffed with cheese, grated carrot and cumin, then put back in the toaster to melt is a favourite here - courtesy of Aitch...

Scootergrrrl · 02/11/2010 13:09

Eggy bread is always popular here. Or French toast if you're posh!

maninthemooncup · 02/11/2010 13:44

The pitta thing sounds lush. Right, off to Sainsbury's to buy baby food!

Or microwave peeled apple slices until soft - that worked really well. Now DS is older (10 months) he can manage raw apple slices and bit bits off an apple.

Favorites here - fruit of any kind but particularly grapes, mango, melon,) toast, rice, eggy bread, smoothies, meat, drop scones, cheese

maninthemooncup · 05/11/2010 08:16

We've had a go at the pancakes thing, she liked! She had a good old chew :)

Will try microwaving some apple for her, she seems to like the taste.

I tried the pancakes too.I put grated cheese, pureed sweet potato and really finely chopped tomato in the mix and she(and DP and I) loved them...thanks for that habbiBOOO!! Glad they went well for you too maninthemooncup and thanks for this thread..am also lapping up the ideas!!

mistressploppy · 05/11/2010 10:05

Roasted veg - better texture than boiled, we found, especially carrots.
Broccoli
Sticks of cheddar
avocado chunks (slippery but worth the effort!)

Fifilottie · 05/11/2010 10:29

Yeah...I have tried avocado..messy but I think she liked the texture....and cheese always goes down well. Was wondering about tuna in pancakes...is tuna ok to give an 8 month old???

mistressploppy · 05/11/2010 13:18

Yes! Brilliant mixed with mash and made into fishcakes too
