like big pieces of apple, raw carrot sticks etc? He has been chewing toys etc for a while and i am not planning on weaning til 6 months. He is ebf if that makes any difference?

I would say no. If you start giving him food to play with now then what chance have you got that you will make it to 6 months before you start weaning?

Also as he gets a bit older he might be able to break off bits from a chunk of apple, serious choking hazard if he is not sitting well and supervised ALL THE TIME.

Let him gum away at his toys for now and have a read of the Gill Rapley Baby Led Weaning book.

I'm confused why you would want to. He would still get the juices etc by sucking so you might as well just start weaning. I wouldn't though.

ok thanks. tbh it was a moment of crazed thought. am counting the days til he hits 6 months.

Ditto. DD is 18.5 weeks. I've been here before, and I know they can show signs when they really are not ready. But she's watching us intently when we eat, copying our mouth movements, watching us intently when we eat. I've had the odd "a bit of apple puree wouldn't hurt surely?" moment, but pulled myself back into line pretty sharpish. Grin

Oh bum, I meant to type "But she's watching us intently when we eat, copying our mouth movements, chewing everything in sight". What an idiot. No matter, we'll be going with the guidelines.

How quickly things change!! Grin
