Ideas for protein finger foods

Am having proper trouble weaning DC3 (which I shouldn't, right, because he's my THIRD?!).

Lips clamped tightly shut whenever a spoon is in sight, but will happily put any and everything in his mouth. I'd LOVE to get some protein into him - pref chicken/beef, as I'm sure it'll help a little with the sleeping. Any thoughts as to what I can try? Or is it literally a case of putting a bowl of tepid shepherds pie in front of him and letting him go to town? and then hosing the house down?

make a cheese omelette, allow to cool, and cut into strips. Or pull chunks off a roast chicken. Or serve home made burgers.

Or meat dumplings... recipe here

sticks of cheese

make a slow cooked stew with chunks of meat in, should be soft enough to gum to death

Yes :) Although agree with t'other comments too.

-Eggy bread
-Cubes of cheese
-Mini sausages - Sainsbury's do Taste the Difference mini chipolatas now which have a high meat percentage
-Meatballs
-Salmon pieces (Sainbugs again, the odd shaped bits are much cheaper and taste fine to me :) )

Does he eat petit filous or similar? Have a look at the protein content of that and you'll be surprised at how much of the recommended RDA is in stuff like yoghurt.

Thank you so much! Will try all of those over the next few weeks.

It's just such a pain as the other two by and large were happy to be spoon fed glop and now have really healthy appetites. I guess it's fear of the unknown - will my littlest one ever eat / sleep as well as the older two if I don't do EXACTLY the same things with him!?

Waves to Arcadie Smile

Just wanted to add that my (BLW( DS will happily take a pre-loaded spoon. I load it with hummus/greek yogurt/whatever and leave it in front of him to pick up. Some things (like Greek yogurt) are so popular with him that he'll grab the spoon before I can put it down Grin.

Have also found that strips of beef/venison/chicken/pork are popular in our house.

xx

Second slow cooked meat. DS finds it much easier to eat than grilled / oven cooked.

mrspear · 21/10/2010 17:44

lumps of chicken breast ... slow cooked beef or lamb.

DS loves munching on a lump of chicken. oh and the butcher does salt free sausages which he loves - i think they are bloody awful

Scootergrrrl · 21/10/2010 17:46

Waves to Arcadie too....

DS - also the third - is the same although he likes to spice it up by occasionally letting me get a loaded spoon in then raspberry-blowing it back at me. He has just has potato croquettes made with cheesy mash and then went down well. V messy though!

Raw tofu. Sounds disgusting, both my kids love it. Get the firm or extra firm stuff and cute into cubes.

UdderFixation · 05/11/2010 08:14

Arcadie, how old is DC3? I am weaning my two, but not sure when to introduce protein...just fruit mush at the moment.

TortillaDeMaiz · 05/11/2010 08:36

tuna or salmon sandwiches
