BLW - I converted from purees- bad decision?!

Hi ladies
I have just joined here and am feeling rather stressed about the whole weaning thing. Hoping you can help!
LO is 8 months at the end of this month and I started solids at 6 months. In all of this time he has shown very inconsistent interest in food generally and has only eaten anything 'properly' (about 10 spoons) on a few occasions. Much of the time he would simply look away when I brought a spoon towards him.

Anyway I was finding the total hit and miss (mainly miss!) thing really hard and worrying as was being told he should be eating 3 meals a day by 7 months (he wasn't even close to an ice cube a day then!) so I decided to try a different approach altogether and started BLW on Tues. The first try went pretty well but that was very short lived and he is basically hardly eating (just ignores the food on his tray or moves it out of the way). I don't actually mind if it's just going to take time but I'm almost 2 months into weaning with only the tiniest progress. All of my friends' babies are happily taking their purees and all the BLW stories I'm hearing are great successes.
I just don't know if I've made the right decision changing to BLW and should I just go back to trying to feed him myself (even though I believe BLW is a good approach and the one I want to go with now).

I never expected introducing solids to pose any difficulty and I just feel really alone on this. I just want my little boy to enjoy food Sad

Any advice and comments gratefully received

Thanks ladies!

just put whatever food you are eating infront of him and let him get on with it

relax, he will start eating

there is no rush

Do a mixture of both. We do with DS2 who is 8 months old. Weaning can be a nightmare, but try not to focus on what they 'should' be having. We try to feed DS2 3 meals a day together with what ever finger food he feels like trying. Today he drank about 7 bottles of milk Shock and picked at his usual food.

He is teething and has a cold (as usual) and so wanted more milk than normal.

Don't stress too much, this stage will be over in the blink of an eye, and before you know it he will be eating with the best of them

I could have written your post a couple of months ago. Honestly, it gets better. DD had hardly eaten anything until about 6 weeks ago (she's 11 months now) and now eats good amounts a few times a day. I mixed spoon feeding baby-rice, mushy weetabix, fruit puree and yoghurt, with loads of finger foods and small amounts of what we were having. I offered her dried fruit, bread sticks etc every so ofen and breat fed on demand. It has all now fallen into place. Stay calm and stick with it.

Hi honey. Keep your chin up. It's not an easy time but it gets better. I chose a combination of purée and blw. I feed ready Brek at breakfast and finger foods at lunch and then I used to do a purée tea with some finger food available if she wants it. The finger food sometimes helps as a distraction while I put food in her mouth. I found the odd jar food takes the pressure off both of us and she tended to like it better than my food. I also found that she prefers a fork to a spoon. I'm not saying I have it all sorted because I don't. Recently the only fruit she will eat is banana so i make a smoothie which she likes through a straw. She is 10 months old btw. Just don't be afraid to adapt.
