Does anyone please have any advice on introducing lumpy food?My dd is 7 months and has been weaned since 5. I make all her food. Should I start making the purees thicker before I introduce lumps or start adding lupms to her normal puree? Tried her with some mashed veg recently but she spat out all the lumps! Thanks.

my ds is 8 months and I am having real problem with lunps, although they can be very very small, he shoaks on them seriosly not just gag!! help please?

I had this with my DS and quite often we would get to the end of his meal and on the last mouthful gag on the slightest lump and bleugh, we'd have the whole lot back again. He couldn't actually tolerate lumps until about 13 months and even then we could get the occasional mishap.

I decided to leave it and not rush things. All these books say you should be doing this and that, well, I thought it's not them cleaning up him and his highchair. He was not so bad with finger foods but anything runny with lumps and we were stuffed.

Slow things down abit and yes a good idea to thicken the puree first for a while but don't panic. Try them as well with finger foods like bits of banana or small lumps of cheese.

finger food as been a nightmere do you mean let them have tiny lumps to hold?

Thanks Furball-finger food sounds a much better idea for now-think those little lumps can be a bit too much of a surprise. There's so much conflicting advice out there that it's easier to think you're doing the wrong thing.

I can't remember what sort of ages they have finger froods from. DS is only 4 but all that weaning malarky seem soooo long ago. But yes when they are ready, just pop a few bits of something on the high chair tray. Like I said a few slices of banana or lumps of cheese or a plain biscuit (or similer) or a soft pear, ripe melon that sort of thing, something that they can hold and suck, nibble and chew without too much effort.
