Is milk still enough?

Just wanted to know how important solid food is at the 7 1/2 month stage. Occasionally DS doesn't want to eat for whatever reason so I try to bf but he only takes about 1 minute or less - my Mum has told me that he probably isn't hungry and to cut down on his solid food so that he is more hungry for milk and that milk, even at his age, contains everything he needs. So which is more important and is it OK that he doesn't always have 3 meals a day??
I want to make sure he is getting all the nutrients he needs but obviously I can't force feed the little fella.
These are probably questions that have all been asked before but I've searched the threads and can't find anything specifically.

he shold be having around a pint of milk a day, plus whatever solids he wants on top of that.

obviously if you're bf it's hard to tell how much they are having, but i wouldn't worry too much if he isn;t that interested in solids

Milk alone at that age doesn't actually contain all he needs. Breast milk especially lacks sufficient iron for that age baby. He will have less hungry days but I think it is important for him to eat some nutritious solid food during the day, even if only a little. You might want to consider a multivitamin supplement (with iron) for babies, until he takes a bigger interest in food.

Breastmilk doesn't contain as much iron as formula. However, what is there is totally "bio-available" to your baby - he will be able to process it all. Unlike formula - babies excrete a lot of the iron that contains.

Breastmilk's still the most important part of his diet until he's about one. That doesn't mean you should stop feeding him food - just that food should be tastes and exploration until he's closer to one.

IME, DS wasn't that interested in food until he was closer to about nine months. I never gave him any multivitamins, just made sure the food he did have was decent quality and varied.

I asked my HV about this as my DS 7mths is only having 2 meals of fruit/veg/rice/corn plus breastmilk - she said not to worry about the iron
