BLW: When does "gagging" stop?

Hello!
I realise this could be a "how long is a piece of string" question, but when did your LOs stop gagging on finger foods?
I've been giving my 6 month old DD finger foods for a week and a bit and she's gagging every single time. She sits unaided and can easily bring finger foods to her mouth so I figured she was ready but the constant gagging on foods is worrying me!

Probably before too long, but they're all different...

Both of mine gagged quite frequently for the first few weeks then one day I realised that they just didn't do that any more.

I used to remind myself that gagging is part of the process of learning to eat, and made sure that I knew what to do if they choked.

hope that it gets better soon.

Really varies. I think DD was at least 10 months before she stopped gagging 'a lot'. But we still get the occassional gag at 14 months if she gets a bit careless and tries to swallow something huge.

Try and think of gagging as a good thing. It's her safety mechanism. If she didn't have it, she'd be swallowing huge chunks of all sorts and that's when she'd get herself in to trouble.

Try and relax. This is all very very new for her.

DS1 gagged and puked on lumps until 18 months!

Thanks everyone.
Well she is still gagging almost all the time but am persevering. I try not to panic when I see her struggling but it's very difficult not to whip her out of the high chair and turn her upside down!
Though I must admit my worse gagging and choking incident today was with my nearly three year old who tried to shove 20 odd grapes in his mouth at the same time!

DS is 10 months old and still gags occasionally, although he does it in a very experienced manner and I have to admit that I don't notice very much anymore, as he does it so well! I definitely see gagging as a good thing though, as they are dealing with the food and it is stopping them from choking :)

My 9 m.o. still gags occasionally - like LifeOfKate he does it in a very experienced way! Usually only when he's teething or trying something new & difficult to eat.

As people have said, it does improve.
