weaning and dodgy poo... is this normal?

Just started weaning my 6 month old. The first couple of days she only managed a tiny bit, then a bit more yesterday...today poo 3 times(very unusual for her), massive diahrea and now has a red bum...

Could this mean sweet potato or baby rice does not agree with her?
I also left her with my mother who gave one bottle of formula which we have never tried before...she is normally breast fed...
Is it the formula that does not agree with her? Or is this a normal way to adjust to food entering the system?

could have been any of them - that is why it is best to try one new thing at a time so you can see if there is a reaction.

That's true, but if you try one new thing for a few days then the next etc. it'll take ages to introduce a range of foods.

Your baby is coping with some very new stuff in her digestive system, so it's not surprising her bowel movements are a bit all over the place.

It's also possible she's picked up a tummy bug and the weaning has nothing to do with it. If that's the case, the best advice is to switch to an all-fluid diet for 24 hours before trying again with the solids. Was her temperature up at all?

My DD went up to 6 days without pooing after we started weaning, then did a MOUNTAIN of poo (including very runny poo) all over the changing mat - this happened a few times during the first 5-6 weeks of weaning, then her bowel movements settled down again.

Chances are, it's just your baby's body reacting to the change.

Have you changed from breastfeeding or newborn formula onto the follow-on milk? Changing onto the follow-on milk gave my DS a really runny bum. The amount of vests I had to bin was unreal!

Not sure of that is applicable to your situation, but just wanted to put it out there.
