probably a silly question about ice cube trays for purees

Hi there

If I make up purees and freeze them in ice cube trays, Ive heard of people then taking them out of the tray once frozen and putting the cubes in bags- but would the cubes get all stuck together? Or should I just use the ice cube trays with lids and keep the food in them til needed?

Many thanks in advance!

the cubes wont stick together much as they will already be frozen.

It makes no diff which you do. If they get stuck, bash them with a rolling pin Grin

The cubes are already frozen and although very occasionally they do stick together.

Can I make a suggestion? We use silicon mini muffin moulds stood on baking trays. That way you can make huge batches, stack them on top of each other, freeze them and then pop them out into freezer bags once done.

Can't take any credit for that idea - DH is the clever one. Envy

thanks!

HopHopaLady is this the kind of thing you mean?

how do you clean the silocon trays? i had a silicon cake tray once and could never get rid of a white powdery film on it no matter how many times i washed it...

When I take them out of the trays I put them in those little plastic containers you get from the takeaway or empty ice cream tubs! They don't tend to stick together and they stack well.

One of my better buys from the Pound Shop was a couple of silicone muffin trays. They are just the right size for one portion and really easy to turn inside out and get the frozen cubes out! (And they are cheep!)

I reuse the glass jars that bought pureed food comes in, oh and the little plastic pots with lids...

I use silicone ice trays. Then the froxen food pops out very easily. I can't for the life of me get the bloody things out of normal ice trays!

I then pop then into ziplock bags and I write the date and the contents on. :) (They don't stick together)

muslimah28 yes, I think so. We bought ours from John Lewis and have never had an issue with keeping them clean.

Happy shopping!

Sorry, should have said that we just wash them up in hot soapy water. I believe they can also go in the dishwasher although I have never tried this.

muslimah28 · 08/10/2010 22:51

i washed my silicone cake tray in the dishwasher, maybe that's what gave it the white powdery film...

anyway i visited the pound shop, couldn't find any, but then found another ebay seller who does them in trays of 6 holes, which i thought would work well for doing varieties of foods in different trays, so just waiting for them to arrive now! thanks so much for the suggestion- and i will be washing them in the sink this time!
