BLW pros, what age did your baby wean from milk?

DD is only 7.5 months atm so clearly I'm in this for a good long while yet,and that's fine, was just looking to see roughly how long it would be before she would be down to night/evening time feeding. I'm at home roughly 5pm-6.30am (and at weekends). I know the food is 'just for fun until age 1' message, but for how long after that are they still supplementing solids with milk?

I realise that every baby's different etc., but if you could share your experiences, that would be great and I could maybe see what vague timescale I'm looking at. For the record, I'm not criticising others' parenting choices at all, but as conventional weaning cuts down milk feeds much quicker, I am especially interested in people who bf & blw & let babies self-wean.

Thank you!

My son had 4 milk feeds a day until 7months when he statred to have protien at luchtime. Then three times a day. Between 10 and 12months he stared to refuse his 3pm milk so at 1 yr I switched him to cows milk which he just has in the morning and at bedtime. I always gave him his milk first and then solids to make sure he was getting enough milk and then just topping up on solids.

Hi my DS is 14 months and from about 11 months had only morn and eve bottles, from 12 months had only one evening bottle which I am planning to cut out in the next couple of weeks cos he is getting the hang of drinking milk from doidy cup (he has cup of cows milk 1030ish and 230ish at mo). I know you wanted to know about bf / blw which i would have done but baby had a cleft palate so couldn't bf. He is totally blw tho, and for lunch on his birthday had a bowl of pasta with tomato sauce and dint even drop any on the floor. In contrast to Jacksons, I started giving him solids first at about 9months which meant dropping the morning bottle was v easy cos he wasn't hungry after his brek. Had to get the brek together super-fast though. Good Luck!

Depends on the child. I allowed dd to demand feed but by the time she was 2.4 I wanted more control so I cut it down to morning and evening only. She's 3.5 now and in the process of self weaning. She feeds every few days, sometimes not for a week at a time.

If you're interested in self-weaning then you're looking at years, not months. The worldwide age for self-weaning is approx. 4 years.

DD is 13.5 months and I have been doing BLW since she was 6 months old. She started eating properly pretty soon. At around 8 months she was doing 3 meals a day and eating quantity which I know it is not very common for babies doing BLW. Now she is still breastfeeding 3 times per day sometimes 4 as she has learnt to ask for it. One at 6am, another after lunch where she eats a main meal and pudding, and before she goes to bed. I thought that maybe she would self-wean the afternoon breastfeed by now but she seems to like it too much to stop it.

This may not be what you wanted to hear but in my case works very well as I am staying at home and I don't mind breastfeeding her as much as she wants. I know that the afternoon feed she does it because she loves that moment of cudling more than feeling hungry as she eats plenty and shouldn't be hungry. She is having 2 snacks also, one in the morning and another when she wakes up from her afternoon nap as well as having breakfast twice. First her cereals and then with me toasts.

Hope this gives you and idea of how long it takes them to self-wean. My DD has decided self-weaning is not for her at the moment so we will carry on like this till she says enough.
