DD is just 8 months, she has so far been a breeze to wean and hasnt refused anything. We have successfully went from puree to lumps and she has started having some finger foods eg rice cakes, toast fingers. I am just a bit concerned about giving her what we are eating chopped up for example a chicken dinner as she has no teeth. Would she be able to cope with chicken? Chunks of cheese etc with no teeth?

Yes.

Cheese chunks squash down and turn liquidy when chewed.

Babies chew chicken and spit out any bits they can't manage. My two both ate regular food from 6 or 7 months and DD2 is now getting her teeth early for us at only 10 months. They manage.

yes all fine. no need to chop it up much. bigger bits are easier to grab at first.

yes you totally can. Grin have fun!

Fully agree about toothless babies managing (and waves at Haliborange Smile).

My DS is six months and we're doing BLW. He manages most things we eat - roast veg, pitta and hummous, rice cakes with cream cheese, drop scones with fruit in them, chunks of mozzarella or cheddar, savoury muffins, meat balls as well as the usual fruit like figs, pears, plums, satsumas, melon, avocado etc - he can even hold a banana and eat it.

He sort of bites with his gums but also just sucks and sucks and sucks until his fistful of food vanishes. It's fascinating to watch!

She has already had banana and brocolli and managed with those but i was just concerned about meat really as it doesnt melt, but will try her on sunday when we have sunday lunch.

My experience of meat is that they chew it and then spit it out, but my DD2 certainly loves the taste and if there are meatballs in the offing she practically inhales those.

One thing I would say is that mine "pouched" chewed meat in their cheeks like they were saving it for later so I used to check their mouths before putting them down for naps!

They've got v hard gums. ds is nearly 1, and has 3 incisors only - makes very short work of chicken, believe me.
