6month ds eats food cold - is this ok?

I have recently found that my ds had gone off my savoury food so have started to add one ice cube of fruit to all his savoury food and also giving it to him cold as when we go out and I take a jar of savoury he eats the lot no problem. This now seems to do the trick and he'll eat everything given right down to cold chicken casserole! Is this ok to not heat up the savoury - as to be honest its making my life so much easier at the moment! Can't see the difference if cold jars are ok?

As long as it has been cooked and has not been sitting around for too long I can't see the problem. They do have some strange tastes don't they!

I did this with my ds as he didn't seem to care if it was hot or cold, and it made life so easy. No faffing around when you go out. I think you need to be careful about serving previously frozen homemade food cold, does anyone else know if that's ok? I did also find some people were horrified so be prepared for some flak!

The only slight drawback was he did start to prefer cold food to hot, so when we moved onto family meals that was a bit of a nuisance.

since you weren't going to reheat it properly anyway (I mean to 80C), it's actually better off cold.

well its food that's been cooked, then frozen. So I get it out the night before and let it defrost to room temperature. I guess I'll try again to heat it at some point as I can see the problem of not eating any food hot arising!

mm, be careful not to leave it laying around at room temp tho. Should really defrost in the fridge.

I was sort of under the impression that food that had been cooked, then frozen, needed to be properly reheated (i.e. to 80 deg as Kelly says) before it was eaten. Did sometimes give thawed, unheated food to ds myself but always felt vaguely uneasy. Probably totally mistaken, will try to find a link to disprove...

Ok found this:

"Where food has been thoroughly cooked, cooled quickly and is refrigerated at an appropriate temperature until use, bacterial growth should be minimal. In such cases reheating should not be a critical control point, but reheating the food until it is piping hot right through provides an additional safeguard.

Foods should not be reheated a second time."

So I guess if we are careful in other ways, it is ok to do it.

Did this for DS1, he still prefers baked beans and tinned spaggheti cold from the tin, yuk, but a mighty quick tea.

My dd2 stopped eating for a few days at about 7 months and then one day when I was holding her while preparing her lunch she grabbed a piece of carrot and stuffed it in her face. She ate everything cold from the fridge for a good few months. Every now and then I would heat it up but she would always wait until it was cold again. She eats hot food now though (2.5). HTH

Right then better put it in the fridge overnight and will try reheating it again when he seems ok with my food again! My dd1 hated being weaned and didn't take to it until 9months or so, and her thing was definitely finger foods - so in another month I can try them on him.
