coq au vin for 10-month-old: irresponsible or... fine, actually?

DS2 is 10 months and I'm trying to move towards feeding him mashed-up food that the rest of us are eating. We're having coq au vin this weekend (one of DH's limited repertoire - I'm not complaining!) and thought it would save having to make a separate meal for him.
Won't be putting any seasoning in it + will make sure he doesn't get any bacon bits, but it's obviously the wine that's making me hesitate. I always thought the alcohol got burned off during cooking, and am generally inclined to give things a go, and it would only be literally a dessertspoon mixed in with mash and other veg...

Would you?

absolutely FINE. Grin i wouldn't even mash, but that's another thing... Wink

PandaG · 15/09/2010 18:15

fine imo Smile

fine actually

JorrisBohnson · 15/09/2010 18:16

Absolutely no problem whatsoever. Always give family foods, never those revolting packets or jars, have you tasted them? Bluergh!

colditz · 15/09/2010 18:19

fine

maniacbug · 15/09/2010 18:20

Oh good! Thanks. Didn't want to get him drunk or anything.
I know Aitch, meant just chopped, really. And he can deal with the beans and broccoli himself!

fine, it is slow cooked isn*t it, the alc should be mostly evaporated.

glad he's developing a palate at such a young age.

he'll love it, i'm sure. can i come?

Aitch · 15/09/2010 18:26

oh yes mydaddycooks is a nice guy.

maniacbug · 15/09/2010 18:26

Yep JB he hates those anyway, although have fortunately identified a couple that he will eat when out + about or in emergencies! He's OK with most things like casseroles, fish pie, etc. but it was just the wine element I wondered about. Prob should be more concerned about the fact that he's rummaging through the pile of dirty washing and chewing DS1's reading book while I'm on here... better go...

Oh, no, wine is great in cooking. It adds flavour so that you are less tempted to use salt.

Think of it as subtler than vinegar (which is a corruption of vin aigre - bitter or turned wine)!

MrsBadger · 15/09/2010 19:13

oh and he will be fine with the bacon bits too

Bechka · 25/09/2010 22:24

Oh it's fine. Sure he'll love it! Sounds yum, has given me an idea for next weekend actually - thank you!

mummynoseynora · 25/09/2010 22:27

I was thinking that about the bacon too! Its all fine, go for it
