Baby breakfasts

My baby is 7 months old. We started solids at 6 months. What should he be having for breakfast? At the moment I'm still just giving him mashed/pureed fruit with some baby rice stirred in.

Am a bit hesitant about moving onto porridge as I'm not sure how to make it up - I'm breastfeeding and don't want to introduce formula but I know he can't have cow's milk. Do I have to express milk every morning to make the porridge?

You can use cow's milk in cereals and cooking, just not as a main drink.

DD ate what we ate from 6 months. So cereal, toast, muffins, crumpets, eggs in all forms, fruit, yoghurt etc.

Porridge is easy. Just put oats and milk in a pan and heat. Half a cup of oats and a full cup of milk will make enough for you and your ds. If you want to use less milk, just substitute with water. It's trial and error to get it the consistency you want. Put it on a low heat and as soon as it bubbles, it's done. Otherwise, you can use ready brek. Grin

you could use ready brek, weetabix, etc and mix with cows milk. It is ok in food and cereal as long as the main drink remains breastmilk/formula.

Porridge is a great breakfast, you can also make it in the microwave and avoid the messy pan, just pop a small handfull of oats in a bowl, cover with milk and microwave for 1 min, stir and put back in for another min then stir and add cold milk until it gets to the right texture (plus the cold milk cools it to eating temp right away).

Neither of mine took to porridge at first though but toast fingers, fruit, pancakes etc are all great or some cereals. If you are worried about salt and sugar in cereals then you can usually get puffed wheat or rice in health food shops. Dd was rather partial to dry wheetabix, odd child.

Yes you can use cows milk in meals. Ds loves omelettes, thick pancakes, croissants, crumpets and most cereals especially malted wheat.
